seeing students outside of school...
ok... so i have a question for long-time teachers i've been working as a speech therapist in school for almost 2 years. and i've run into my students outside of school on several occasions. how do you usually handle this?? do you just kinda of say hi and leave it at that? or do you stop longer and make conversation with the parent?? does it make a difference who you're with when you run into the student? like just DH, versus a larger group of friends? LOL just trying to see what the 'ettiquete" is for this

I don't say anything unless they say hello to me first. Then its just hello and how are you. Its never gone further than that. I don't say anything because you never know what the student is up to and I don't want involved.

Re: seeing students outside of school...
I wait for them to say hi to me most of the time... sometimes when they are alone and with their friends at the mall or movies, they don't want their TEACHER saying hello... but lots of times certain ones want to say hi to me...and when they are with their parents, the parents usually want to say hi... i leave it at hi, how are you....

Re: seeing students outside of school...
I usually say hi if I see them outside of school. As far as conversation goes, it depends on the family but I try and keep it pretty brief.

Re: seeing students outside of school...
I live very close to my district and often see my students. If I have a rapport with them or their families I have a conversation, if not but they recognize me I always say hello.
