Seeking Advice Regarding AIRPLANE TRAVEL For The First Time With Our 19 MOS Old

Hi,

I know that technially you don't NEED to buy a seat for a child on an airplane until after 2 years old. We decided to!

First: Were we smart to???

Second: Would you at 19 MOS have her sit in her car seat on the airplane seat or on the seat itself with no car seat?

Thanks,
Keri

It totally depends on the child, we flew when DS was 15 months and did NOT buy him a seat and it was fine. The plane was not full either way and he got a seat.

We always check our car seat, even now when DS has his own seat.

Yes, I think you were smart to buy the seat you and she will both be MUCH happier.

We flew when DD#1 was 15 months and I brought a seat for her. It was SO much easier to have her in the seat and I think she was much more comfortable. I would definitely do it again for a 17 or 18 month old. Additionally I have seen on some of the airline sites and when looking around that they recommend that any child under 40lbs be restrained in either a car seat or the CARES system.

I know for Chels she would be more comfortable in her car seat, so if it were me, I would bring a seat. I would have purchased a seat for her as well!!Chat Icon

We buy a seat every time we travel. Kaydyn does not sit still for a second and if we tried to hold her on our laps it just wouldn't work.

We always bring her car seat since we rent a car wherever we travel to. Plus as I mentioned above it's easier to keep her contained in the car seat.

Until DS turned 2, we would always fly during "off" times to almost guarantee that he would have a seat. During the few times we bought a seat (because we weren't sure if there would be one), the flight ended up having tons of empty seats anyway! We never once regretted it Chat Icon It will be more comfortable for everyone if she is contained and has a comfy seat to sit in.
