Airplane travel with 9 month old...

I know there have been a lot of questions on the boards about airplane travel, and I apologize if I am asking the same ones, but we are flying in less than a month and Mommy is starting to freak a bit. DD is 8 and this will be her first flight and I know that she is nervous. DS will be 9 months and is a terror. Basically he hates to sit for a minute. Constantly on the go. We are bringing the carseat with us, in the hopes that there is an empty seat on the plane to put him in. If not, he will be in our lap. Now, I know for my DD, just to bring books, her Nintendo DS and some gum, or Starburst for the ear popping. What should I bring for DS? He has Sophie the giraffe, but should I bring the same toys he has at home now, or buy him new ones? It's a 4 1/2 hour flight and I really do not want to drive everyone else on the plane crazy. Thanks ladies!!!

We flew with Kaydyn at 10 months. We brought stuff for her to snack on, a couple of board books, a portable DVD player with some of her shows. We brought stuff like puffs and baby food and teething biscuits that would take her a while to eat. Our ped said just give her a bottle at takeoff and landing for her ears.

I am flying in June with DS along & he will be just 9 months. I plan on bringing his favorite toys & some snacks. Our flight is 45 minutes, but I am just hoping that i can keep him quiet for it

Re: Airplane travel with 9 month old...

I flew with DD at 5 months and 10 months and she was great. It was a 6 hour flight and DH did not travel with me for one of the trips. Just take a couple of extra sets of clothes for DS and at least a clean top for you - you never know!! also favourite toys - small ones and a couple of new ones.

I EBF so I fed DD on take off and landing ( and during as it was a long flight). I also gave her the paci if she needed it. I also walked with her when she was getting antsy and she was really well behaved.

We flew the first time with DS at 10 months, and for us, snacks were our savior. We also brought a DVD player.

I'm traveling with DD when she's 10 months...I plan on bringing toys, snacks, bottles, stuffed animals. Not sure about the DVD player yet, she's not really into shows/videos.

Re: Airplane travel with 9 month old...

I flew with DS at 9 months too. We went to Aruba. We had the early flight out. We gave him a bottle going up and he was fine. Brought some toys for him to play with and slept landing, which was great.

Also brought a DVD player and played Yo Gabba Gabba. He loves that show and will actually sit through the whole episode.

Bring water, snacks, bottle, jarred food, etc.

Also, brought the bjorn, which was great at the airport and walking on and off the plane.

Same here.

Also, someone mentioned the Baby Bjorn - if you have one, definitley take it. My last flight (London to NY on my own with 8 month old DS) was with British Airways and for some reason, we had to board on the tarmac! And in both directions, they couldn't get my stroller in the cabin, so they had to put it in the hold, which meant it came out with the luggage on the carousel instead of at the gate - total nightmare as I had to go through immigration with DS and my carryon without the stroller! I'm so glad I decided to bring the Bjorn!

I took a few new toys that I knew he'd like and a few favorites of his. They kept him busy for take off and landing when he needed to sit in my lap, but for most of the flight, he was on the floor by my feet, standing holding onto my legs, or we were walking around. And he was most interested in the remote for the TV, a plastic cup, the toothbrush in my flight pack - pretty much anything I didn't bring for him, LOL!

He was very fidgety, but people around me kept telling me what a good baby I had, so I guess he was quiet! It's a lot of work when you're on your own, but you get through it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

We flew with DS at 8 months old and at 9 1/2 months old. We brought toys, books and jarred food and bottles. He had either a formula bottle or a juice/water bottle on take off and landing. He was very good.
