Airplane travel with 9 month old...
So we are taking a family vacation in May to St. Thomas and I'm not sure what and how to pack. Can I bring powdered formula on the plane in my carry on? What about my umbrella stroller? Also, since DS is going to be a lap child, what do I bring with me to keep him occupied??? I am starting to freak out a bit...

We flew with DS at 8 months.
You can bring powdered formula, it is no problem at all and you gate check the stroller right before you get on.
We brought some little toys but DS fell asleep on my sister, so it was really fine

Re: Airplane travel with 9 month old...
we flew with DD last month to Jamaica, she was almost 7 months we did the lap seat ticket as well, but i can tell you that that was the last time DH & I did that. luckily the plane was half full (i knew bc i checked a couple of days before hand) so when there are seats empty they will let u bring in a carseat and put your DC in that We did that and let me tell you, she loved being in her carseat, for take off and landing- i gave her a bottle and kept her very occupied. by singing to her, playing her music... and she didnt cry. she fell asleep for most of the flight - in her car seat. we took her out a little but really couldnt imagine having her in our laps for 3hrs + someone else sitting next to me (no room)!!!!! we had the 3 person row flight!
yes you can bring formula, and a stroller, they will check that at the gate for you. i would recommend getting a backpack as a diaperbag. i didnt listen to someone who recommended that and regretted it, now i know for the summer when we will take our next trip to get a backpack.
oh yes and my DD pooped right when we were up in the air (maybe the air pressure?LOL) so make sure you have ziplock bags and ofcourse change of clothes

Re: Airplane travel with 9 month old...
Thank you so much!!! We are definitely bringing the carseat because we are renting a car in St. Thomas and I don't trust the rental car's carseats. We are going to be in a 3 seat row as well, but it will be me, DH & DD, which this is also her 1st flight and she is really nervous. This is definitely going to be an interesting flight!!!

What sunscreen did you put on your DD? I was checking out the aisle at the store today and there are SO many different kinds. DS has pretty sensitive skin and he is very fair so I know he is going to burn... I seriously feel neurotic right now...

Re: Airplane travel with 9 month old...
I just flew into New York from London on my own with my 8 month old on Tuesday. I've flown London to NY with him twice before, but this time he was a handful because he was so fidgety.
Check with your airline about what they provide and what their procedures are. Some will check either a stroller or a carseat but not both. I just flew British Airways and had to board on the tarmac in London which was a nightmare - they took my stroller when I got on the bus to get to the plane and when we got to New York, it came out on the luggage carousel AFTER I had to go through Immigration. It was a nightmare! Luckily I had my Baby Bjorn with me.
I agree with whoever said use a backpack instead of a conventional diaper bag. Pack a change of clothes for you and baby. Plenty of diapers, plastic bags in case of any messes. Powdered formula. I bring a few new toys that he's never seen before (bought specially for the flight), plus a few old favorites. Little rice cakes/finger foods were a lifesaver on this flight. Antibacterial wipes as well - DS loves to put everything in his mouth!
