Self feeding tips?

Noah still has no " pincher grasp" ..he will be 9 months Sat.

I have been trying to give him "something" to try to self feed with at every meal...for about 3 weeks or so now and was doing it once in a while before then.

He still cannot do it and he gets so frustrated, I feel bad for him.

He will grasp it..like a puff and he goes towards his mouth but it always drops, gets stuck on his face etc. ( with any food. not just puffs) ..

I dont think he has ever successfully gotten food in his mouth. LOL

Anything I can do to teach him this or just go with it?

I dont care , not trying to rush it, but he wants to and tries so hard and cries when he cant get the food.

Practice makes perfect. I stayed away from anything sticky (like Puffs). She learned with Cheerios.

i thought DD would never get the pincher grasp thing either. she also got frustrated and dropped everything. but i just kept putting cheerios/puffs on the tray and eventually she really got it. i was so surprised b/c i thought it would never happen. just keep putting it on there and go with it. i also agree with maybe not doing anything that might be sticky like puffs.
oh and she really loves picking up small pieces of pancakes-they seem easy to grasp for her.

Cheerios are the best. cut up strawberries, blueberries, peas, edamamme, chick peas.

I agree to stay away from the sticky stuff.

Re: Self feeding tips?

DD is learning with Cheerios, small squares (size of a Cheerio) of sweet potato baked, pieces of green bean, peas. It takes a lot of practice. Her % has really improved. At first she was lucky to get 1 or 2 Cheerios in.
