separation anxiety issues
ok, so I am used to having such a good son that would leave me without hesitation, He is always around kids- going to classes, playdates, etc...
Well, since he has been sick ( a week ago), he is having such separation anxiety issues. Whenever I leave the room he cries, he won't let other people put him to bed but me.We just had a playdate at my house with 8 kids and he was attached to my leg...
My parents watched him for us this weekend so we can have a date night and she said he was waiting at the door for me almost the entire night and that he was a "sad sap." This made me so upset because he is never like this...
I am so not used to this. and fustrated.. Any advice would be deeply appreciated..
I am hoping there are other people experiencing the same difficulties as I am since I know there are many of us with the same age kids...
I am hoping this is just a phase or that I just have to get back to my usual routine of classes and going out and such...

Re: separation anxiety issues
Ds is the same age and we go through mini-sessions like this. However he usually does this when he is sick or getting sick or if he is tired. Overall he will stay with others and sometimes cries when THEY leave.
My friend's son is the same age and he is attached to her hip. It is probably just a stage or it might be his personality. You might want to try some seperation classes. My dh said he cried everyday during Kindergarten I wave goodbye to my mom and never looked back. She cried.

Re: separation anxiety issues
Thanks for the input... Jacob has been taking classes with other children since he was 8 weeks old and next week we will be having three classes a week with one being a mommy and me class which leads into a seperation class around summer time..
I am just hoping once I get back to my usual routine, this will get better...

Re: separation anxiety issues
I would say if there was a physical milestone or illness (in his case illness), it's perfectly normal. I would try to resist the urge to snuggle him if he's holding back or to force him to interact (not sure if you've been doing either of these). I think if you ignore it & he eventually sees other kids having fun, realize that you're not going anywhere and take off on his own.
Maddie (aged 3) was sick this last week. I had to walk around holding her hand because she was so clingy. I know it's tough. Hang in there.
