Separation/Stranger Anxiety

For moms who work outside the home and DC goes to family or daycare...did your baby experience this and if so, at what age?

We're not experiencing it right now (DD's only 6.5 months), but I was just wondering if it is less severe when baby is used to going to other people so regularly.

Re: Separation/Stranger Anxiety

Strange that you just posted this. I dropped off my son at my in laws this am and every time I would walk out of the room he would get upset. He has never done this before (and he is there every other day). I noticed him doing this whenever I am not in view the last couple of days. He will be 6 months next week.

I have heard it starts around now.

I spoke to my father in law after I got to work and he said that the baby was a little upset for a couple of minutes and then he distracted him with a bottle and all was fine after.

Re: Separation/Stranger Anxiety

DS has been in daycare since he was 3 months old and I do believe that this had reduced the separation/stranger anxiety that is very common for infants.

However, at around 4 months I think he had a problem with certain personalities I guess I would say. Anyone that was very loud and in his face cause him a lot of distress and he would claw his way for me. People would look at me like what's wrong with him...when in reality it was them. I even had one person say to my baby - this is how I am you have to get used to it Chat Icon DH nipped that and told them that if they wanted DS to be comfortable with them...THEY would have to tone it down and make him comfortable. Fortunately everyone cooperated and DS was able to get through the stage quickly.

Now...he's so good with people...ready with a smile and loves to stare at new people. If they hold him...he's all hugs too Chat Icon

Re: Separation/Stranger Anxiety

You know I was saying the same thing..i keep waiting for it to happen but he's been in daycare since he was 8 weeks old and has shown no signs of either seperation anxiety or stranger anxiety..I hope I"m not jinxing myself but it might be because he's exposed to so many different people now you know!.

I think every child experiences it at different stages of development & multiple times.

Ultimately if anything, I think going to daycare helps the situation because there is a separation & then you come back versus the child that is with their mom 24/7 with very few separations.
