Seriously, does no one teach their kids manners anymore?
Maybe I'm just PMSing, but I am doing what I thought was a fun lesson with the kids today (popping popcorn for sensory description and imagery) and I am so tired of the negative comments from kids. They complain about everything and say whatever is on their mind...no filter at all. I can't take it! Vacation..you NEED to come faster.

I know! I can't believe how rude they are! I could never imagine as a child saying the things they say to an authority figure, or to anyone!!!

Re: Seriously, does no one teach their kids manners anymore?
I completely agree. I spend so much time outside of school planning lessons so they are fun and interesting, only to hear some kid say "This is boring"
I cannot imagine saying that to one of my teachers and their lessons (generally) were boring. Straight notes for 42 minutes everyday! I had one class where you literally sat your butt in the seat and started copying the board and didn't stop until the bell rang at the end of the period.
My lessons have video clips, activities, demos, hands on labs, computer labs, and all I hear is this is boring. OR when we do labs, they are like can we just sit here and take notes instead. It is so frustrating.

Re: Seriously, does no one teach their kids manners anymore?
oh my gosh!! i say this ALL the time!!! kids have NO manners, AND no ability to do what they're told!! i'm a speech therapist, and i plan a lot of lessons involving games where the kids learn, to make it more fun, and more functional. BUT all i get is " i don't want to do this!" "can't we play Uno instead???" When i was young, i NEVER would have even THOUGHT to question a teacher or what they were doing!! I had to tell one kid 3 times today to stop playing with things on my desk and sit down.... what ever happened to repecting authority?? I just went to a presentation by the author of the book "Generation Text", and he talked all about how this age of video games, instant gratification, and 2-working parent families who don't have time for their kids... is really affecting this generation, and its SO true!! GRR!! haha guess i needed to vent, too! my break starts friday, and it can't come soon enough!!

This is exactly how I feel.
Most of my kids are really into the lessons, but the ones that aren't- AREN'T. There's this one kid in my class who is negative about EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he complains every single time we do something- even fun things that everyone else is excited about.
My response to him is "you don't want to be included, fine. Nobody can make you have a good time" I used to try harder to get him involved but I realized he does it all for attention

Don't you love this:
"Katie?"
"What?" I wouldn't dream of answering my teacher with what.
Or the ones who LOOK at you and do something AFTER you tell them NOT to.

Re: Seriously, does no one teach their kids manners anymore?
My students have no manners. I wouldn't dream of talking to my teachers like they talk to me.I actually had a student as me if I had my period today because I was crabby.
It is horrible. My father would have kicked my a$$ if a teacher ever called to say I was rude. These parents (at least in my school) do nothing. Sometimes I feel they even encourage it.

Absolutely agree! When I meet some of my parents, I see where these kids get it from!

Re: Seriously, does no one teach their kids manners anymore?
I know what you mean. I was doing an activity with my class, and two boys were running around after each other. I made them write notes home explaining to their parents what they did. One mother wrote me back, and said, "But he was tagged!" Guess I know why this child lacks manners.
