Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
I try - but he's NOT a morning person and daycare days are already a fight.
I figure 2x a day 4 out of 7 days a week won't kill him !!

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
well, what i think should be done and what i do aren't the same.
i think their teeth should be brushed twice a day.
i brush them once a day, before bed, and sometimes in the morning. (on the weekends I get a morning brush in).
my kids are tough to get dressed and out of the house in the am. I tend to skip it to avoid an additional battle. I feel guilty about it, though, and have told myself that within a year, I want to get them into a better morning routine. I'm working on getting them to better earlier, so that they get up easier in the morning....

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
Like another poster said, what I think should be done and what we actually do are different things. His teeth should definitely be brushed twice a day. But we are always in a rush in the morning trying to get out and hardly ever remember to get to it. We always brush them at night before bed.

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
we try to brush 2x everyday but I think the NIGHT is more important, to remove a days worth of food, sugar etc.
DH thinks the AM is more important.

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
DS is 2.5 and we always brush before bed AND in the am. It's part of our routine and has been for months. If DS thinks that we forgot, he reminds us "Mommy/Daddy, it's brushing teeth time."

James actually freaks ot if we *don't* brush his teeth in the morning.
I personally think that the nighttime is more important and would skip the morning sometimes if he would let me (just rushing to get out of the house)

I agree the night is more important and I try to brush after bath as part of her bath routine but lately she's been so cranky that it's a battle!

My husband and I have this EXACT argument all the time! I completely agree with you! He says the AM is more important because things fester in your closed mouth overnight.

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
I brush DD's teeth in the AM and PM everyday. She usually reminds me and she loves getting her teeth cleaned. Its part of our routine. I cant get away with not brushing them in the morning because my DD sleeps with her mouth open and has stinky breath in the morning!

Both DC, both AM & PM. My 5 year old DS knows the routine and does on his own. My DD needs my help.

This EXACTLY DS is fine brushing at night, but b/c I have to get him up early for daycare and time everything out brushing usually is not an option.
Weekends are easier. When he gets up on his own and gets enough sleep he's in a better mood

DH thinks the AM is more important.
The night is more important in terms of cavities.
The day is probably more important for the morning breath aspect and consideration for the daycare teachers.
2x a day is the standard. occasionally missing either.
My teeth feel gross if I go to bed without brushing them. So I would think theirs do too.

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
I brush her teeth after breakfast in the morning and in the bath at night. In the bath she never fights, the morning is another story. Some days are worse than others but I always try to do at least twice a day.

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
Both. The thought of having to put my kids through the trauma of having a cavity filled or tooth extracted is enough motivation!

Yup ! I brush teeth (using a tooth brush) starting as soon they get teeth 2x a day. Even when we are out and I know we wont be home I will bring a toothbrush with us.

Re: settle a tooth brushing debate
My 2.5 year old asks to brush her teeth at EVERY.SINGLE.DIAPER.CHANGE We limit her to getting up, after lunch, and before bed. We do help in the morning and at bed, but she does pretty good.
