Children, out of curiosity pull tails and ears and do silly things because they do not know better. You NEVER know how a dog is going to react. I would NEVER under ANY circumstances leave a child alone with a dog. I almost had my face torn off by a doberman when I was 7 and all I did was look at it.
I absolutely agree. Not many of you know this but I have two Boston Terriers. One is sweet as can be, the other not so much. The day I returned to work from surgery, my MIL (who was babysitting) called in a panic. She had left Amber in the living room with the dogs and out of nowhere heard her sceam. She ran in and the not so much dog had attacked Amber's face. She bit her lip, nose and had punctured the skin slightly above Amber's eye. The dog had shown previous aggression towards Amber (growled) but we had sent her to Training, etc. to modify the behavior. I must have flown home from Melville in about 15 minutes. Thank God she didn't require cosmetic surgery but the moral of the story is that I allow NO DOGS to be alone with my baby girl ever. Especially a Pit

That is a terrible terrible tragedy, if that's what really happened, and I am probably going to get flamed for this, but there is something about that story that doesn't sit right with me.
First the woman said she screamed and scared the dog and it ran out of the house, but then the neighbors said that they heard her scream and one of them came and broke it up. Also this kind of behavior from a dog (mounting) is a dominance thing only, unless the other participant is in heat. So in all liklihood that's what this was, not that if that's what happened it makes it any better or less traumatic for anyone. If its a dominance thing there wouldn't be penetration, cause that's not what its about.
Plus the whole diaper thing.
I don't know, something just doesn't sound right.

wow what a WEIRD story!
a) why was a 2 year old left unsupervised?
b) why was a 2 year old left unsupervised WITH A DOG?!
i htink this is incredibly sad, that poor childs insides must be a mess,i cant imagine the pain.
the reason why the dog couldn't be seperated is NOT because it was agressive, but because a dogs penis gets enlarged when inside. (poor child) and it can't slip out until the dog is relaxed and all. (i'm sure people screaming and hitting the dog only complicated the situation further and prolonged the detachment)
i hope this dog gets FIXED and finds a good home. and the child gets better soon.
i dont like that htey called this a pitbull "attacking" a 2 year old, as it was not. people need to realize animals are animals.
sad story all around.

I was just thinking the same thing 
me too, its such a scary story, but keep in mind its rare. This is the first time I've heard such a thing. I love dogs & children and will def. have both at some time, but I would really leave them alone, especially that young in age.
P.S. Sorry, but unless you are a breeder, PLEASE SPAY & NETTUR YOUR PETS!!

Let me say that I am a TOTAL dog lover... but.. would YOU want a dog that "raped" a child? I don't believe it's a learned behavior, but once the animal does it... he might be prone to do it again.
i would. he needs to be FIXED. if he was fixed in the first place this probably wouldnt have done it. and the dog doesnt know its "raping" a baby. its a dog.

lol, i know the dog doesn't know he's raping a child.. i was quoting the article where the woman said "the dog is raping my child".
My friends dog is fixed and humps the world.... who's to say even if the dog was fixed he wouldn't hump and possibly penetrate?

there is def. some missing pieces to this situation. Funny part is they say the mother screamed, but never tried to rescue her child. The rescue happened when the neighbors came over???

I have to agree. There is something about this story that just doesn't make any sense. There are inconsistencies. The child would have to be without any clothes on the lower part of her body. The mother screamed and scared the dog away, but, the neighbor had to stop the dog. The child would have had to be in a certain position for the dog to mount and I would think the weight of the dog would have knocked her over, thereby stopping the action. I have had dogs almost my whole life, both males and females. I know that dogs act on instinct and become physical when provoked. If the dog had bitten her (which would have been just as tragic), I could understand. This, however, doesn't make any sense.
I don't doubt something happened to this poor child. I just doubt that the dog is to blame.

Weird. Why on Earth would you ever leave a baby alone with a dog, esp a Pitbull (meaning size, strength).
How very horrible and odd. Either way its neglect on the parents part.

Something about this sounds a little off to me.
I would and will have no problem leaving my 2 year old with my Lab, he is amazing with kids.....

I just reread the article, and it says that she DID scare the dog out of the house, but the dog was STILL attached. So THEN the neighbors helped.
ETA: (article was updated at 6pm, so maybe that part was updated. Other people probably had the same questions)
People are stepping forward asking to adopt the dog.

I feel horrible for this poor baby, but it was an innocent mistake.
I grew up with dogs my entire life and I am 99% certain that at times my mom left me alone with the dog. I don't see anything wrong with that. Although I don't think I ran around the house naked.
That poor dog was just doing what dogs do. He didn't "attack" the baby. He's a dog. He doesn't know that it's wrong.
And not everyone gets their dogs fixed. My mom has 2 male dogs, both aren't fixed. Eventually they will be, but not now.
This was all just a horrible chain of events, that separately, were completely inncocent.
