please do not read this story if things truly get to you b/c well its horrific imo..yet i couldnt resist posting and expressing my shock...
Horrible Story
I feel terrible that the child had to go through this.
I do have to say, WT.F are these IDIOT parents thinking by leaving their toddler alone with an animal? I know this may be controversial, but I don't think the dog is at fault, nor do I think the animal should be punished in any way. It's a DOG!!! PARENTS should have brains enough not to do such a STUPID thing! I don't care HOW "nice" your pet is, or what a loving nature it has. It's still an ANIMAL and it should not be left unattended with a child. Ugh!
I think that it is easy to say this if you don't have kids, or if you don't have a dog. When you co-habitate with animals, it is not always so easy to actually DO.
Would you crate your dog every time you had to go to the bathroom or bring your infant/toddler (who may be sleeping) with you?

That is a terrible terrible tragedy, if that's what really happened, and I am probably going to get flamed for this, but there is something about that story that doesn't sit right with me.
First the woman said she screamed and scared the dog and it ran out of the house, but then the neighbors said that they heard her scream and one of them came and broke it up. Also this kind of behavior from a dog (mounting) is a dominance thing only, unless the other participant is in heat. So in all liklihood that's what this was, not that if that's what happened it makes it any better or less traumatic for anyone.
Plus the whole diaper thing.
I don't know, something just doesn't sound right.
I feel EXACTLY the same way. I think there is a missing piece to this puzzle.

Re: Shocking Story about Dog & Baby WARNING GRAPHIC
Ive heard it all now! when I was a kid we had a huge german shepard that was left alone with my brother and I to play all the time. she was the sweetest dog.
Today I have 2 dogs a boxer and an american bulldog and I would NEVER leave them alone with the baby- maybe the boxer he is a total mush. but I am still nervous. Kids will be kids and play rough.
as far as this story goes- why was this 2 year old naked and left alone with the family dog, especially a pit that no matter how sweet they are all dogs have an instinct and unfortuatley a pits jaws can do a lot of harm.

Re: Shocking Story about Dog & Baby WARNING GRAPHIC
How tall are pit bulls anyway? Aren't they relatively close to the ground? Is it even possible for the dog to run out of the house with the baby attached to it? Does not make sense to me

Re: Shocking Story about Dog & Baby WARNING GRAPHIC
I was skimming through the blogs where people were writing comments and people from that area who are seeing local news coverage were saying that the mother is being investigated - 26 y.o. single mom with 5 kids living in filth in a crack-infested neighborhood...

I agree, I have a feeling they are covering something else up and using the dog as a scapegoat. I don't see how it's physically possible for a dog to sodomize a human. This on top of the fact that dogs don't get se*ually excited from humans or their scent...only from dogs in heat otherwise they would be doing each other constantly but they don't. I think something else was done to this poor little girl.

Re: Shocking Story about Dog & Baby WARNING GRAPHIC
ok, the more i htink about it, the less i believe this story.
i mean, the baby would have to be naked & in a position for the dog to do this.
if it is even possible and lets say it DID happen, then i would THINK it wold take some time for the dogs penis to find its way into the childs anus. i mean really.....

No way that's possible. The dog has to stand on its hind legs to mount anything, so unless its learned how to walk on two legs while supporting the weight of the baby with its two front legs, I don't see that happening. PLUS, if it was in the baby and then it was scared enough to run away, it would not have maintained that connection.

it actually IS possible. the dog could have changed positions where he was on all fours and the baby was hanging from the pitbulls behind. i know it sounds weird, but it happens eta: like this
which would mean the child would have bruises and cuts EVERYWHERE

I knew it sounded fishy. That poor poor child though, she/he is suffering terribly. And if its not true, that poor dog too.
I also think this is terribly irresponsible reporting, and I bet the fact that a pit bull was involved is what allowed that to happen. If they had a lab or some other dog that is not being targeted right now as aggressive they probably would have investigaged further first.
Such a shame all around.

Re: Shocking Story about Dog & Baby WARNING GRAPHIC
Jes - I SO didn't need to see that picture! Regardless, do you think a pit bull would have the strength to pull a 2 y.o.? It's not a newborn. Whole thing is awful, tragic, disgusting and I hope the police get to the bottom of this because I cannot imagine that the family unfortunately was not involved in some way

pits are extraordinarily strong, so i think he probably COULD have dragged teh boy.... i think its possible BUT DEFINATLY NOT probable. i really doubt this whole thing ever happened. seemed like a cover up not thoroughly thought out.

Don't ask me HOW I know this, but I remember hearing that dogs have a "knot" at the base of the penis that swells after penetration. It prevents the penis from slipping out, and will not allow the "victim" to go anywhere until it's "finished".
I feel so dirty writing that!

number 4- i feel bad for the dog and hope hes adoptable again.
Let me say that I am a TOTAL dog lover... but.. would YOU want a dog that "raped" a child? I don't believe it's a learned behavior, but once the animal does it... he might be prone to do it again.
no i dont think he would be prone to do it again (even though after rereading the article i dont think he ever did in the first place)
i would be a RESPONSIBLE dog owner and neuter him and train him. so to answer your question, yes, if i could, id adopt him. I dont believe for a second that he did this bc hes a mean vicious dog.

bc if he did do it, it wasnt his fault. he didnt do it with the intent to hurt the child. He should have been neutered. He should have been trained. He should have never been left unsupervised

Why? If he sodomized a child why on earth does he deserve a good home?
I think its ridiculous that so many people would be willing to take this dog into their homes and take that chance with this dog.
