Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm petite, 5' and tried on a maxi dress last weekend. I couldn't decide what I thought of it because I normally think long dresses make me look shorter.
Any shorter girls wearing maxi dresses?

Re: Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm 5'3 and find that they really don't do anything for me. I think they look great on tall women, but for some reason when I try them on I feel like I'm back to wearing some of my maternity dresses so it's a turn off to me. Looks beautiful on others, but not for me.
Short dresses look better on me and much more flattering. I wish I could pull them off though

Re: Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm 5' too and I'm hesitant to wear a maxi dress. I have a tendency to opt for shorter dresses because it makes my legs look longer and makes me look taller. Also, being short, maxi dresses hardly ever fit proportionally.
One tip I did get from someone is to go to the kids section and try on the maxi dresses from there because they are more proportionate to us shorter girls. I'm thinking of giving this a shot to see how it looks.

Re: Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm debating about getting one. I have to try them on. I'll probably look ridic b/c they will be so long but we'll see. PP-Good idea to check out the kids section, might have to do that

It's funny because I'm tall and I don't feel I can pull it off. I just feel like it hides me. And I agree about the maternity-ish feel. I feel like my legs are my best feature- I don't want to hide em!

Re: Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm 5'4. It really depends on the dress. I bought one last year and it didn't work for me at all. I just bought a cheapo one though and I love it. It clings in just the right way and I think it actually makes me look taller (and thinner! ). It's a very soft jersey material.

I'm 5'2" and I don't wear them. I don't even try them on, I know it would be way to long and just look ridiculous on me.

I'm 5'4 and feel the same. Although I haven't even tried one on b/c I just don't think it will look good.

I'm 5'2" and LOVE maxi dresses and skirts. I wear with flip flops or if too long with wedge sandals. I often receive compliments when wearing them so obviously someone of my height can pull them off.

Re: Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm 5'2" - I have very strong feelings that there are certain things you just don't wear unless you're very tall, and very thin ..........maxi dresses are one of them.
I don't own any

Ha! The pic of Allyson Hannigan on the Celeb board proves my point why I feel like I'm wearing a maternity dress.

Re: Short girls in a maxi dresses?
I'm 5'4 and the ones that fit me best are geared more to a "juniors" style.
I bought a cheapo one that I love last season at Wal-mart of all places that fits well and is not see-thru.

This is another thing. I think maxi skirts are a good compromise. Sometimes you can fold over the waistband if they are too long. I have a striped grey and black one and I loooooooove it. It's kinda tight at the top and then more flowy at the bottom so it makes my butt look good, too.

I'm going to check it out. No shame in it! I just bought a kids Met's t-shirt from Target the other day in XL. In all fairness, it was really cute!
ETA: Picture! C'mon, it's adorable!

She looks great. Such a comfortable and obvious choice for a pregnant woman. Depending on body type, maxis can definitely give the illusion of being pregnant. I am petite in height and weight and have never felt like a maxi made me look bigger than I am. I guess it depends on the style, fit and body frame.
As others mentioned, I actually feel taller when wearing a maxi dress. The long, straight silhouette gives an elongated appearance.
