Short term disability

Does anyone know if you can collect STI while collecting vacation/ sick time from work? I'm just trying to plan ahead. Thanks!!!

Short term disability

First week was 5 sick days, next 5 weeks were STD and then the next 4 weeks were personal/vacation days. Last 4 weeks unpaid :(

I don't think you can collect when you are getting paid out for vacation/sick. Cause if you did you'd be making more money on disability than normal.

It depends on your employer's policy. For me, I had to use 1st week- 5 sick days, then 1/2 STD pay supplemented with any sick/vacation time I had until STD run out either 5 or 7 weeks later (depending on vaginal birth or c-section). After that it was whatever vacation time I had until I ran out, and was unpaid until I returned.

I figured that you cant collect while still getting paid, I was hoping to figure out a way to be able to take my whole 6 weeks. I'm fairly confident that my job will front me my vaca for next year since I'm due 3 weeks before my anniversary date, plus I still have 1 week left for this year and some sick time. I guess I will have to speak with my office manager when she gets back. Thanks!

Short term disability

My Vacation/PTO is used after I use STD and parental leave that I get from my company. I have:

1 week waiting period (I'll use PTO for this)
5 weeks of STD paid by insurance carrier
9 weeks parental leave from my company (I actually do earn PTO while on parental leave)
Then I'm using 4 weeks PTO
Then 2 weeks unpaid.

I'm out a total of 21 weeks. So I definitely don't accrue anything while on STD but I do accrue when getting paid by my company during my parental leave.

Totally jealous of your company's policy!!! Mine doesn't offer anything other then the option to use my own PTO + STD that's why I'm sweating it out.

It's one of the reasons that my company was more attractive than others when I was interviewing two years ago! Obviously I didn't tell them that at that time but was thinking into the future.

It's amazing how bad our parental leave is here in US. I mean, talking about it is like Chat Icon but it's so true. My boss actually encouraged me to take a full 6 months which would have meant I took a decent amount of time off unpaid but we did the math and just decided it wasn't worth the money.
