Should I be concerned (formula related)??
I have had my DS on Similac Advance w/iron since we brought him home from the hospital (he's 4 weeks now). He had been fine on it, but last week he has started getting very gassy- farting all the time. And when he does fart he becomes very whiney and grunts while moving his legs in and out. What is now bothering me is that at night he is grunting and crying in his sleep and usually becuase he has to fart. He also is not going down in his crib as easily, almost like it is bothering him to be on his back. He just seems so uncomfortable and he was such a mellow baby before. Do you think the formula is bothering him? I think I'll call the ped tomorrow, I feel so bad for my little guy

Same thing happened with Landon. We switched to Similac Sensitive and he is soo much better! You can give him mylicon to help with the gas.

Is the similac sensitive the same as gentlease? I gave him some mylicon but I have given it before and it didn't seem to do much. Maybe I'll try it with each feeding though.

that happened to Emma too, we switched to the sensitive and eventually the alimentum and she is much better
You can use mylicon or gripe water to help with the gas too.

Yes, the Sensitive is the same as the Gentlease.
Same thing happened with my DS, but I gave it til he was 8 weeks old (it takes some time for their systems to mature) and then my ped had us switch.

Ditto.... I also use gas drops and gripe water - both of which were a godsend!

I have gripe water if you want it meg! I also have Mylicon...
I would talk to the ped about it and maybe switching him to Sensitive isn't a bad idea. I mean he definitely seems uncomfortable from the gas (legs stiffening is a big sign) so i would see if it makes a difference.

Re: Should I be concerned (formula related)??
we had the same thing happen at the same age. Poor kid would wake up crying because he c ouldnt pass the gas. I tried gas drops, burping more often, etc....Talk to your Dr, I was ready to try soy but my Ped suggested milk based Good Start and it worked wonders.
I think around 4 weeks their little systems have matured some that suddenly what worked before doesn't work now.

Re: Should I be concerned (formula related)??
my DD also had the same issue... we did the mylicon drops after every feeding. Also, are you using RTF or powder? When we switched over to powder, it was like magic! (some babies have the oppostie reaction though)

Re: Should I be concerned (formula related)??
Same thing happened to us...my DD got half breastmilk half formula...
We switched to Sensitive very early on and she's great...
I'd like to switch back after she's about 6 months or so because the Sensitive is lactose free and I want to see how she does with lactose in her diet...

Re: Should I be concerned (formula related)??
Thanks everyone for all the responses I switched him to similac sensitive so hopefully that helps. I'm also going to try the Mylicon more often. I just hope my little guy feels better soon, it's so sad to watch them be so uncomfy

Just don't stress out if it takes a few days. When we made the switch to Gentlease, it took about a week to 10 days to see a change
