Shower drama--Sunday can't come soon enough--Very long vent!
So my shower is sunday & yes, I'm a little controlling so I pretty much planned everything. My mother said she really couldn't afford it so I said not to worry about it. My dh wanted a co-ed shower so we're expecting 50-55 ppl.
My mother can be a little high-strung & apparently a little spiteful. She's acting like this a big wedding & not just a casual 4-hr baby shower.
Here's some of the drama: She screamed & cursed at me last night when I stopped by. I think she's still mad that I didn't let her do it her way. She told me I have no class because I didn't want to serve coffee with the cake. What is that? No class?? She wanted to hold the shower at this bar (yes, a bar) that her friend owns. And she's mad that I didn't invite her 2 friends with their boyfriends/husbands. I didn't invite my own friends with guests!
Then my grandmother calls to see if 2 of her friends can come also. One of them will need a ride but don't send dh to pick her up because she might be scared to get in the car with him!!!!! She didn't come out & say this but I should mention that dh is black & the little defensive jewish lady might be comfortable. W T F!
And then, my mother's cousin emails me this morning to see if she can bring her kitten to the party (in the carrier of course) because he needs medicine every 2 hours to clear up his eye infection!!
I said no to the the kitten but really, all of this is madness!
I'm sitting trying to get things done in the apt & worrying about when the baby will be here & they're making a HUGE deal about a stupid little shower!

I'm sorry they're making it so difficult for you. Where people get the audacity to invite other guests & pets to a shower is beyond me.

Look at it this way: you are getting the drama out of the way BEFORE the shower. I had a fair amount before and the shower itself was lovely.
I did have to  at the kitten. I am having anxiety over leaving my dog for the first time next week, but it is for 5 days, not 5 hours

sorry you have to deal with drama for your shower. I know the feeling.

Oh my! I feel your pain. My mom has been really difficult lately too especially with the shower...she's giving my cousin a hard time (helping with the shower) and procrastinating everything!!
It'll be over soon and you'll have wonderful things for the baby!! Goodluck!

oh goodness how stressful hang in there as for the kitten you made the right decision simply add if you can.. i cant be around any animals with infections bc i can get the baby sick...

I would have told my mother OFF if she behaved like that..
told my grandmother to sit on it and tell her NON invited friend she isn't able to come..
and the cat lady.. uhh I won't even say what I would have said!

I've just tried to laugh everything off because I know they're the crazy ones, not me. I told my cousin that she can't bring the kitten because I want my deposit back for the room & other people (like me) will feel uncomfortable.
The "no class' comment bothered me the most. I mean, who gets that upset about having coffee with cake. Hellooo!! It's only 4 hrs on a hot, humid Sun afternoon. I think juice is fine and my mom doesn't even drink coffee. And talk about class, she told my father to pick up a case of beer. Good thing she mentioned that because I told him he can't come if he has beer with him.
My grandmother is another story. I have to be sweet to her because she's old but yeah, that's just ignorant!

i'm sorry they're bugging you with this nonsense! Your mom should be more sensitive to your feelings. The kitten is a flat out no - tell her the bar won't allow animals in there anyway!
