Sick visits at the ped. I have a question....
My DD had a fever last saturday, sunday, Monday that ranged from 102.7 to 100. Nothing else except the fever though.
I take her in on Tuesday (they were closed mon.) and he says its just viral, "nothing you can do". He couldnt find anything.
Wednesday, thursday she develops the typical cold signs: runny nose, cough. EVERY time she coughs she throws up!! ITS HORRIBLE. She is such a happy baby and was MISERABLE, crying all day.
I take her back today and insist that something must be wrong with her, more than just a cold. He rechecks her and guess what? DOUBLE EAR INFECTION "very bad" according to him. WT HEK? Why didnt he see this two days ago? According to him her ears were clean then OK.
Now they are charging me for Tuesday, today and two weeks from now for a re-check. I have to pay $50 everytime. I asked isnt there something they could do, its not right, especially since he didnt find anything on tuesday!! Nope they are billing me for 3 sick visits. IM so pi$$ed.
DOES YOUR DR. CHARGE for every subsequent visit, even if they are 1-2 days apart?

as far as the ear infection, it is very possible that her ears were 100% fine just a few days ago.....a lot of times ear infections develop during the course of a cold.
Hope she feels better

Yes, they charge me for every visit. Something similar happened to DS. We were in and out in one week about 3 times, and they charged each time.

Yes. And it is common for them to get ear infections after a cold! It stinks, has happened alot to me where one day its viral or a cold and then 2 days later its something bad!

Ugh, so I guess every ped is like this... this is just outrageous.
Its also not the first time it happened. 2 months ago SAME THING. go in, nothing is wrong, a day later, ear infection. Come on...
This is highway robbery. Only freak!n job where they can "not find anything wring" and still charge you, then charge you AGAIN when they do find the problem.

Re: Sick visits at the ped. I have a question....
The only visits we don't pay for are well visits. I've had both DD's see the pediatrician only to be back a few days later when the ear infection only comes on. Each time there is no ear infection he tells me that doesn't mean an infection can't be looming around the corner. And yes, we pay to have them checked to see if the infection has gone away.
I hope she's better soon

Re: Sick visits at the ped. I have a question....
Yep each and every time.
Mine was so sick I SWEAR she had the flu but the test was negative. One week later she was positive but toward the end of it. Well shocker not all of those nose swabs are 100% bah humbug
But ya know what? I'll glady pay each time if they find out what's wrong with her. To be fair though, I'm in high deductible program so I don't pay copays. I pay for the WHOLE visit until I reach my $2000 ded. So I don't get $50 bills. I get $150-$200 bills.
However I was ticked as hell they missed her flu the first time and blew her off the second time. But thankfully AJ was strong enough. Still I'd have been at an overnight place in two seconds if I thought otherwise.
Kids = Expensive *sigh*
and its one of the many reasons I am one and done.
I am able to calm down and sleep at night knowing that if she'd really been sick no money in the WORLD would be too much to make her better
Oh and on a side note.. the clear then there ear infection? VERY VERY VERY common. A viral cold won't have the ear infection, then a few days later (like 2 days) the ear infection sets in. I used to just watch AJ after every cold or sickness because it was nearly 100% sure two days later she'd have an ear infection.. RAGING one no less.
Thank god for tubes.

It sucks to keep getting charged, but they are billing for their time and expertise. It's happened to me too. Took DS in, it's just a cold. Took him back, now has an ear infection. I would never expect to only be billed once since the doctor did evaluate him twice, two appointments, etc.
Now I don't go in when it's a cold. I did take him in when I suspected his cold caused an ear infection and I was right - but I only took him to the doctor the 1 time.
