Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
MIL watches Sienna and last week was my first week back at work so she said she'd come to us to get to know DD's routine and just easier for me to get back into the groove, etc.
So today was the first day DH dropped her at their house.
Well, I called an hour ago to see how she was doing and MIL said she hasn't napped at all. Not crying or fussy just up and looking around at everything.
That means she's been up since 8:30am! (DH said she slept in the car on the way there and woke up when they got to the house.)
Usually she'd be on her 2nd nap of the day already. Anyone else have this happen when they took their DC to someone else's house (or daycare) all day? Am I in for a bad night tonight??

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
My MIL watches DS at her house and he never naps as well there as he does at home. There were a few days where he didn't nap at all and just went to bed earlier that night. She will adjust to her routine, it is a new place for her right now.

she'll adjust. It really should change your nightime routine. She's in a new place so she's curious. That's all

My DD did this too when she first started daycare. It took her a few weeks to adjust and now she's fine (although she does nap better at home). Her teachers said that this happens with all the kids.
I will say though that she passed out cold those nights while she was adjusting to her new environment.

that happened to us the first day we had visitors come to us. It just threw off his whole routine...and right now we dont even have a good routine down as DS is so cranky and hardly naps long.
but your DD will probably get back into her groove once she gets used to going to your MIL's house.

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
this is exactly what happend to Victoria, the first day she spent at my moms, she didnt nap, she was just looking at everything, exploring, when i brought her home - screaming tantrum (and she never ever cries) DH & I tried to comfort her, but she cried for like 30 minutes straight, finally we put her in her swing and she fell asleep. She was sooo tired from not napping all day.
Now she's used to my moms, and loves it :) good luck tonight, she might be cranky & just really tired from not napping.

Its definitely an adjustment for the baby - they are in a new environment and have a new caregiver for the day - so its all different for her.
She will adjust - it just make alittle bit of time....

My mom minds DS and same thing happened with us. He was CRANKY when we got home, but he did get used to it! Like anything else, she'll adjust!

DS doesnt sleep as well at daycare as he does at home. I think its the louder/new environment. I dont find that it messes with his nightime

i don't think it's crazy--babies adjust to new surroundings even if they have a difficult day or two as they learn their new environment. if anything, it's good for them to know other places.

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
Thanks! I hope she at least gets one nap in before I go pick her up (and maybe sleep in the car on the way home) and hopefully she does okay tonight.

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
My guess is she'll be off schedule tonight a bit. I would also expect her to be completely exhausted from the all day stimulation.
It's probably her adjusting to a new place. If your MIL puts her down for a nap tomorrow, she'll probably go for it.
It gets better with each day.

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
DD is in daycare 2 days a week and does not nap there. At most we're lucky if she takes a 30-40 minute nap around 12:00 or 1:00 which means:
1. She's awake from 6:45am (sometimes earlier) until she decides to nap
2. By the time I pick her up and get her home, she's already been awake for 5 or 6 hours which is ALOT and is a total monster from the time we get home until her bedtime an hour later.
Since your DD is in a quiet environment, she may just need time to adjust to her new surroundings.

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
Before starting daycare, DS would take a 2-3 hour nap in the morning and a 45-90 minute nap in the afternoon. When he started daycare, he'd take 2-3 extremely short naps. He was cranky and tired when we'd get home. It took a few weeks for him to adjust and not want to fall asleep when we got home. He still doesn't nap as well at daycare as he does at home. For the past month or so, he now only takes 1 nap per day there. It lasts anywhere from 30-60 minutes.
It may take some time, but she'll adjust to her new environment.

I can agree with that if the child was older but at 6 months old they need things to be as normal as possible IMO.... Not to say there is anything wrong with it either way - BUT my choice would be to have DD watched in her own home....

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
Silly ques. but did your MIL try to put her down?? I only ask b/c I remember my sis's MIL used to want to spend all the time with her so she would tell my sister my niece "wasn't tired" but she would come home and be exhausted...she later realized she just wasn't putting her down.
Just a thought, hope that isn't the case!
My DD always naps better here than at the babysitters.

Re: Sienna's first day at IL's house (with question)...
No experiance with this but there are somedays my baby is up all day (usually when I have company and he is stimulated too much)! I always get nervous that he will have a terrible night, but it doesn't really make a difference, it's not like she was being kept up against her will. Let us know how you make out

Yes, she tried to put her down a few times but she just rolls around and is wide awake. I think there was too much stimulation (she was in a new place all day, my SIL stopped over to see her, etc), but she did end up napping in the bouncer for 45 mins right after she got off the phone with me. Then when i got there around 5pm she was sleeping so that was good. I stayed for a little and fed her and then she slept 30 more mins in the car on the way home.
I put her down around 7:30 (she fussed a little at first which she never does) and she's been sleeping since.
I'm off tomorrow so I get to spend the day with her!
