Re: Silly question about sneakers

Though I think in an ideal world, the answer is he should get them... paw patrol is more popular with the preschool set. Kids can be mean. I'd do a super hero, dinosaur, etc.

Def not! Last year when DS was 3 one of the day care parents made a comment about how my son 'still' had light up sneakers. Still?!? I believe in letting children be children as long as possible!

I am the odd one out here, but I just don't like character clothes or shoes. My son likes certain shows or characters but IMO he doesn't have to have them on his clothing. Don't hate me!!

I'm not big on character apparel either but I wouldn't bat an eye if a kindergartener had paw patrol shoes. The day kindergarteners start teasing each other over babyish clothes I will lose my mind!

I know right? What's next? 2 year olds making fun of other 2 year olds for still having a pacifier?
this world is really going to shit
And if we normalize it by not letting a 5 year old wear character shoes because it's too "babyish" then we are all to blame.

Yes... I think kids should be kids and shouldn't pick on each other. BUT they have older sisters and brothers and interact with other kids. Paw patrol demographic is 2-5. I wouldn't get something that is pricey and expected to last a long time like shoes (at least for us, shoes are to last at least half a year).

Looking at girls dressing in K, their stuff mimics teens with emojis, unicorns and all (check out girls and boys size small). I don't like that look, but wouldn't send my K girl in with paw patrol either. Realistically, she'd be a target.

I agree. My statement wasn't about a kid being too old to wear a character, but rather, that getting a plain sneaker to match any outfit makes more sense for me personally -- I just don't think there's a need for characters to be on shoes or shirts, yes I am a bah humbug type person lol

I guess it depends on the school and the kids because DD wore character stuff all year in K and even wore a Minnie Mouse dress that she loved this year in 1st and nobody made fun of her for it.
She still likes emojis and unicorns and more tween stuff from Justice but she wears other stuff she likes too and was never a target.
Again, luck of the draw I guess

I dont get this. Just bc some kids have older siblings or prefer other clothes a kid who wants paw patrol shouldn't get them? My kids have never had character sneakers but discouraging a kid who wants them is ridiculous unless you happen to be a parent wouldn't allow any characters.

Dd chose a Minnie mouse backpack this year. I wasn't thrilled since she rarely has any interest in Minnie anymore but it's what she wanted so I got it. Pretty sure she based her choice solely on how pink the options were. That better not mean I'm sending her with a target on her back. Aren't we sending kids to kindergarten to learn how to socialize appropriately and be good citizens?

Silly question about sneakers

This makes me so sad. My dd is going into ft prek. She chose a frozen backback and such which she really isn't into anymore but she loves the characters because she relates that they are sisters and she has a new baby sister. I'm not a fan of characters BUT I'm not wearing the clothes and I'm not going to tell her no based on what might happen.

I agree with you. Kids who want to wear character clothing/shoes shouldn't have to conform to society- or peers- to avoid being teased. Why not teach this population to be tolerant and accepting of what others choose to wear? That's the bigger issue.

That was the point I was trying to get out yesterday but couldn't articulate for some reason.
