Re: Simple poll about masks on children at school.
I want no mask in schools. I think it’s about time and we need to start lifting these mandates and learning to cope with the fact that Covid is here to stay. I realize Masks and quiet lunches are starting to have a social and mental impact on my son. So even though my son can breath in it and doesn’t care about wearing one, I know it’s not good for his well being.
However, I will say that if removing masks means more quarantines and remote weeks, then I rather keep them.

At what point does the Covid-q9 change from a Pandemic become an Endemic?
At this point there is too much money and power up for grabs for this to end now.
I also feel strongly there is a whole racial and economical component of why this is lasting so long. AIDS was around for a decade before government and pharma even cared to educate and really take notice. Same as with crack/coccaine vs the Meth epidemic. There’s is a clear pattern.

I am not sure but here are statistics that I found that put things into perspective. The flu, which is endemic, kills approximately 36,000 per year in the US. That’s 100 per day.
Covid, which is currently a pandemic, is killing 2,000 people per day. That’s 20x as deadly.
——-
I don’t live on LI so how everyone feels about masks here doesn’t affect me. Most people in my area are wearing KN95 masks at this point so even if the mandate is lifted, I think most will continue to wear them. The people who will ditch masks are probably the ones who are wearing them improperly anyway.
I actually hate wearing a mask and would be okay with removing them for everyone when infection rate drops (hopefully like it did last spring).
—— Are schools really having quiet lunches? I teach HS and they are sitting 4 to a booth and talking like normal. The schools people are describing on here are nothing like what I am seeing first hand or how my son describes school (or what I see when I get him from after care hosted at the school). Also, I am in NYS; just not LI. My entire family on LI though describes school as I have experienced it.

Simple poll about masks on children at school.
I'm so done with this shit. Enough with the pandemic. It's been 2 years it breaks my heart to see kids in masks. I work in preschools and the kids are always pulling them off. It's not natural How any parent can say its okay is beyond me. Now all of a sudden its all about them not getting sick with anything. What's wrong with a good old fashion sick day is it an inconvenience to parents nowadays???? Remote learning never bothered me I liked my kids around. I'm sure the parents that love the mask for their kids safety are the first ones to give their teenager keys to the car once they pass their road test when MVA's are the leading cause of death among teenagers specifically new drivers.
Back to the masks not only do they look submissive to me, but I don't think my kid has changed mask all year. People are constantly touching thinks in their daily lives schools, stores, etc..... then removing the mask, putting it back on seriously how s that preventing illness????

Agreed. When my kids were younger ALL my days were taken for them. While they were not sickly kids, that first year in daycare they were always sick and after that, it was their days off. This is what we have to do as parents.
On the topic of changing and cleaning masks, I will be honest. In the beginning I wore a throw away or washed mine a few times. Now I wear the same few whenever needed and never wash them. Knock on wood, or maybe I just don’t know, I haven’t gotten Covid in these 2 years. I don’t use hand sanitizer either. I do wash my hands all the time but always have as that is just me. My family? SMH. I think all this stuff is lowering people’s immune systems as they are not allowing them to work on their own.

They say once the virus becomes more predictable it will be an endemic. They are anticipating later this year.
There is already a new variant of omicron, that doesn’t always show positives on Covid tests. They are calling it stealth omicron.

I was just telling DH the other day...I don’t think I've washed my mask once. (I don't wear disposables because I can't breathe in those so I had to get "compliance masks") It's in the bottom of my purse and when I'm forced to wear it I dig it out, shake off the crumbs and dust, put it on for theater purposes, then pull it down once away from the mask police. I have never touched my face more than when wearing that filthy thing. I cannot breathe with a pair of panties on my mouth and nose so it's constant touching to pull it away, or its on my chin, then back on my face . It gets moist too. It's truly disgusting. It's a wonder I haven't gotten sick from it. You exhale gases for a reason also. You aren't supposed to be sucking those gases back in.

No, they aren’t. I just made it up because I like to be dramatic and right.
All kidding aside. In NJ and in private schools, they certainly are.

We all lie for dramatic effect. Like when my daughter was locked outside in sub freezing temps in the name of safety. Or the teacher in my district who made kids who showed up maskless yesterday (when our district told us that masks were optional) sit in a corner in the back of the room away from the chosen masked ones in front of an open window where they froze all day and weren't allowed to put a coat on or put their hoods up and when they had to speak made them stand in a red box she had taped off on the floor before they were allowed to open their mouth. Yet this must but only my district because everyone else seems to be living their best school lives and loving school and nothing has changed and kids aren't affected and kids LOVE wearing masks...It's like utopia!

That's crazy, what on earth is the justification for a "quiet lunch"?? Thankfully that's not the case at my kids school, lunch is pretty normal other than they are assigned to a specific table to eat. Even that's kind of dumb because then they can go outside at recess and play with everyone anyway. lol

Our lunches are far from normal. My son in middle school has to sit at a desk 6 feet apart from anyone in the school gym. My daughters classes are split into three groups. They only get to eat in the cafeteria every third week. The other weeks they are in the classroom spaced out. Honestly that bothers me more than the masks.

Yup because people are getting smarter and starting to fight this so lets add on another variant. There will ALWAYS be variants to viruses. We have to live with it like we have with other ones.

OMG, if I was a parent in that class, you would see my ASS down at that school this morning. Wonder if I know whom that teacher is or my kids do. Yeah it must just be YOU. Don't you just want to live the unicorn life others live on this board? Not only are THEIR lives perfect, so are their kids now.

That's nuts, kids need proper socialization. That would bother me as well.
My DD is in middle school, they get to eat in the cafeteria every day but my DS who is in 3rd only gets to eat in the cafeteria every other week. I don't get the logic in that one at all. There isn't a 6 ft rule anymore, I think it's 3 ft now but I'm not sure if that's even the case at lunch. I can't keep up with it all anymore.

My son has to to eat as his desk, with a plexiglass covering they put up for lunch. They used to be able to whisper quietly to their neighbor who is 3-6 feet from them (can’t remember if it was shortened), but with the Omicron hysteria, since they got back from break the kids get yelled at if they talk now. My son never complained but after two years I think he’s mentally done because he’s been very vocal about how he hates lunch.

OMG! Not the STEALTH Omnicron. RUN!! HIDE! Get back in the bunker! A new variant that doesn't show up on tests, and probably has no symptoms either. So at any time, ANY time you can have it and not know! Your doctor wouldn't even know because it just does not show up on tests. It could be anything. It's a chameleon. Itchy asshole? NO! STEALTH OMNICRON. Ingrown toenail- could be the STEALTH. We CANNOT unmask our children because Omnicron has gone stealth now.
Who makes this nonsense up?

I don't think lunches are normal for MOST kids in school still today. But you will always get the ones that will claim everything is normal for their kids.
I think what you need to understand is not everyone on this board is from LI and depending where you live the response of of schools to the pandemic will vary greatly.
When people, not just myself, say things are pretty normal for their kids it's because they are, nobody is lying. What's to be gained by that?
I live in a small, more rural town which has had next to no cases throughout the pandemic. School has never had to shut down due to infection rates and my county has consistently had one of the lowest rates of COVID in all of NJ since this all started. It's a far cry from the situation across NYC and much of LI.
So yea, aside from masks, things are pretty normal here for my kids. Things are pretty normal for others kids as well. It all depends on economics and location. It would be in your best interest to stop insisting that everyone is always lying, it shows a lack of understanding and makes you look foolish.

What is going on in these schools is insane and I don’t think it’s normal for the majority.
Like I said in the other thread, Paterson schools were remote for the last 20 days. That’s NOT back to normal and that’s a big school district in NJ with many kids lacking a proper education for 3 weeks.

At what point does the Covid-q9 change from a Pandemic become an Endemic?
—— Are schools really having quiet lunches? I teach HS and they are sitting 4 to a booth and talking like normal. The schools people are describing on here are nothing like what I am seeing first hand or how my son describes school (or what I see when I get him from after care hosted at the school). Also, I am in NYS; just not LI. My entire family on LI though describes school as I have experienced it.
No, they aren’t. I just made it up because I like to be dramatic and right.
All kidding aside. In NJ and in private schools, they certainly are.
I'm sorry, that's really a terrible way for these poor kids to have to function. I hope it gets better soon for him.

Re: Simple poll about masks on children at school.
It was a 5th grade teacher in an elementary school that wasn't mine so I don't know. The parent who posted about it said if he doesn't get proper action from the district he'll post the teacher's name. I didn't think segregation was allowed in schools, but here we are. It's amazing what fear will do to people's brains. I'm sure this asshole had 3 vaccines coursing through her and was wearing the duck billed platypus mask on, but she's still scared of an unmasked 5th grader. Perhaps she should find a new career or get herself some help.

My problem is that I don’t question when people say their schools are back to normal but don’t question me like I’m making this sh!t up. And not saying you did specifically but in general people love to do that on here.
I know some schools are functionally as normal as they can be but in NY and Nj there are many schools that are not. Nell has given many examples of her school district on LI. The majority of it, is not ok for kids.
I also feel like your example is the minority because of where you live, which is great but not the norm.

Thank you. Honestly, I’m just trying to get him through this year because I don’t think things will change. Basically trying to be as positive as possible and counting down the months till he is out so he can enjoy his summer.
