Sinus infection - what can I do to get rid of it?

I have not had a sinus infection in so long. Yesterday it hit me out of nowhere and it's giving me the worst sinus headaches.. Anyone know what, if anything, we can take or any home remedies? I've been doing the sinus rinse.

If it's truly an infection you will need antibiotics.

If it's just sinus pain and pressure you can take plain sudafed according to my Dr- but that really does nothing for me.

The sinus rinse helps and I have heard great things about the neti pot though I have not tried it.

Also- a humidifer or a vaporizer works wonders.

Re: Sinus infection - what can I do to get rid of it?

I have a terrible cold/cough going on right now. When I called my OBs office yesterday I was told I could only take Tylenol cold products and Robitussin DM.

I suspect I may have the start of another sinus infection though. I had one right after getting pregnant and had to go on antibotics. (Z-pack since it's safe for pregnancy)

If you have a true sinus infection, you do need antibotics. I would call your primary and get it checked out.

I was just put on the z-pak for this. Sinus infections are dangerous if they are not treated. You def should see a dr and get an antiobiotic, they don't go away on there own!

Be careful about going on antibiotics. I thought I had a insus infection but really, I have been like this since I got a BFP!

I just use the sinus rinse, drink lots of water. Maybe get a humidifier?

Neti pot does wonders for me, the salt/baking soda mix it comes with is great remedy for swelling and it really cleans out everything and makes it easy to breathe.

Its a little weird to use, but once you get the hang of it, you'll really love it.

Re: Sinus infection - what can I do to get rid of it?

I had one las week and tried kicking it with Tylenol Sinus and saline nasal spray. It only got worse. Ended up taking antibiotics (Z-pak) and I'm significantly better.

GL! Feel better soon!

Yup my OB is the same, I actually prefer it though.

Actually, before I got PG I told my regular doctor that I refused to take antibiotics anymore. I was taking them 4-5x a year! So, she told me to use the neti pot, drink more water and rest when I got sick and I haven't been on antibiotics since! Sure, it takes longer to beat stuff but I don't think its good to be on them so much

If it's not an actual infection, I suggest the neti pot. It's very strange and takes some getting used to, but my pregnancy congestion has COMPLETELY cleared up since using the neti pot. Feel better!

Your nose bleeds can just be from being PG..I had HORRIBLE nose bleeds my whole pregnancy...they got so bad I had to get my nose cauterized TWICE! You should see an ENT!

Re: Sinus infection - what can I do to get rid of it?

ugh, I just started with this too. My whole head is just one big congestion! I really didn't want to take anything. I've been drinking a lot of OJ and drinking tea, its gotten a little better, but I'm not 100%. This Netti Pot has me interested though.....

ETA: ok just looked up the netti pot.... so weird! But if it works!

Re: Sinus infection - what can I do to get rid of it?

Thank you all!

I have the sinus rinse squeeze bottle, which is easier for me to use than the netti pot. I think I am going to continue trying to use it for a few more days. If it doesn't help I will most def be going to the doctor to get it squared away.

I'll also look into buying a humidifier, thanks!

Re: Sinus infection - what can I do to get rid of it?

OMG, I am just getting over this. I am 26 weeks and my nasty cold from last week turned into a sinus infection.
It took a week to get rid of. It was the worst sinus pain ever. I couldn't eat because my teeth hurt so much.
I at first did the steam shower, regular tylenol (which is a joke), and the sinus rinse. After four days I had no other choice to go on antibiotics. I am only taking amoxicillin they were really cautious of what to give me and it took three days for them to kick in. I still have some pressure but at least I am not in agonizing pain anymore.
Good Luck!
