Posted by SweetestOfPeas as much as I feel that there is no worse crime than a child molestor, I completley disagree with this show! just read the excerpt I added to my last post.
how is this helping?? let the cops do their job!
if these suspects faces are plastered all over TV, that in itself could be ruled a mistrial! this show IMO is doing more damage than good.
Unfortunately if dateline didn't do anything, then I feel as if nothing owuld have been done. I don't think there are many police forces out there doing investigations like this. well you're certainly entitled to that opinion. and it could be true. but I still feel that the cops should be able to do their job without the medias involvement. the DA is refusing to prosecute any of the 25 men who were caught b/c of the medias involvement. Great job NBC!

Let's not get this twisted. These guys all were not sitting at home watching tv when all of a sudden an underage child knocked at their door. The men weren't angels in this case and they ended up getting put on the tv. Public embarassment in 2007 is the same as being put in the stocks back in the day. Once again he happened to get caught in this scam. We will never catch all of these bastards but if a few get caught and publicized then so be it.
IMHO, I'm not the one who is twisting this. Nothing was ever PROVEN. We do live in a country where EVERYONE is innocent until PROVEN guilty.

What about the Guilty that were Proven Innocent? More likely than not they were in the chat room saying certain things and not here on LIF like me. Maybe if they were invited over they wouldn't have been in the chat room.

Re: Sister sue's NBC after brother kills himself....
i don't agree that the best thing this guy could do was kill himself- that's harsh. how do we even know he would ever go through with the act of molesting a child? he could just be the sicko online that never physically acts on it. i agree he would still need help, but it seems like the public embarrassement from the camera would cause his life so much harm that all he felt he could do was kill himself. i don't think that's right. if he came to the house and than shot himself when he got bail, i would have a very different opinion. i think dateline should have left this arrest to the cops, it may have spared a life and gotten this man the help he needed.
ETA: i don't think the sister has a case because being a pervert online is wrong and killing yourself is wrong. so although, i don't think NBC should have been involved, i don't think they are at fault. maybe a case to stop the cameras (not the cops) from going to the home of online predators who did not go to the setup home would be a more warranted case.

If these people were wholesome individuals they would have not been caught up in this entire "witchhunt".

I do agree with you for the most part. If this guy had actually shown up at the house, I would have agreed with you 100%. However, he didn't. To me, that leaves open the possibility that someone else could have been on his computer. Granted, he killed himself over this, so that points to guilt.
But, I worry about the impact this could have on people who use public computers, people who share computers at work, people who leave laptops unattended, etc.

While that is a valid point. How many times have you been caught up in something like this? I know I haven't. I don't think this mix up could happen in most of those situations. The point that I am trying to make is more likely than not these people had bad intentions in a) talking with these minors and b) visiting them if it came to that.

True True. But, I'm also concerned that 24 peope who DID show up at that house got a free pass because the investigation wasn't conducted properly, but was more of a TV stunt.

It was a TV stunt I totally agree with you on that. Dateline wasn't doing it for fun. It was for ratings. But if these chat rooms get wind of this. Which they have. Then a person who may have been on the fence about doing something like this might be less inclined to do so. If we instill fear in these types of people then I don't see any wrong on Datelines part. But in any case I know we are both trying to play both sides and I respect that you can see my points and I can see your points. Touche.

According to the article, he never showed up at the sting house.
Doesn't anyone think there might be some merit to the sister's case??
Yes, ITA!!! Not everyone who sues corporations is a crack pot. She can sue in criminal court and if she is not successful take them to civil court for damages.
She cannot sue in criminal court. She can try to sue NBC in civil court.

Re: Sister sue's NBC after brother kills himself....
In many states.... Soliciting a minor online is against the law.
Im sorry the guy was talking about masturbation to what he thought was a minor. He AGREED to meet the minor at the house to have sex. And I want to say he drove to the house but never went in.
The site where you can track sexual predators is posted on this site all the time and most people freak saying oh god one lives 5 miles from my house. What if they did one of these here on long island I would SO watch to see if I recognized any of these people I'd also want to know if there where people around here soliciting minors for sex.
I can't BELIEVE people would actually DEFEND this pervert
