today is my first day by myself at home with my newborn. It has been tough... everytime i bf her she is fine for 20 min then starts crying. I really am trying to bf but it seems my supply is not enough for her.. I just cant stop crying.. I feel like I am letting her down bc i dont have enough supply.

Re: sitting here crying
Don't be too hard on yourself, the best thing to do is not stress yourself.
Try to relax, put some soothing music and maybe that will help you with your milk supply,
Hang in there, you are not alone.

It gets so much better, believe me. My first day home alone was tough too, and I was formula feeding! I can imagine how aggravating it is for you at this point. Listen to the great advice of other breastfeeding moms...and if none of it seems to work, do whatever you need to do! (lactation consultant, supplement with formula etc...)
Good luck and know that we've all felt that way!!!

Re: sitting here crying
I would first try to relax Drink TONS of water and maybe start pumping in between feedings to increase your supply. I would also call a lacatation consultant if you are still having trouble...Hang in there, it gets soooo much easier

Re: sitting here crying
I am sure your supply is fine! Babies cry so much in the beginning sometimes with no rhyme or reason, it;s hard I found that a sling and or baby carrier worked wonders!!! DD still loves being worn at 13 months.

I supplemented too- DD was not gaining.
I cried the first time I was home alone too.

Andrea, don't worry your milk will come in just keep BF her! Its tough in the beginning, but once your milk comes in more she wont be hungry as fast or cry.

It's just a matter of hanging in until the milk comes in. You'll both be ok.

Re: sitting here crying
Don't feel bad i been by myself since i came home it is hard but it gets better. U are doing a great job and that is great that u are breastfeeding her.
I know how u feel right now just think that if u were not breastfeeding and can't get them to latch on that is the problem i'm having right now.
But i'm pumping.
Keep up the good work

Re: sitting here crying
I didn't breasfeed, so I cannot relate to what you are going through in regards to that.. but I CAN totally relate to how sad and alone I felt when my DH went back to work after our DS was born, and I never ever thought I could do it by myself... it just overwhelmed me completely, and I cried ALL day long (and for weeks thereafter sometimes, since my DS was quite colicy)
That said - I promise you that what you are feeling is totally NORMAL and you will find every day will get easier and easier... Hang in there and lots of

Andrea, this is soooo true. This is my 2nd time around and I'm sitting here crying all day long with the two of them! I, also, feel like I'm BFing 24/7!
At this point I HATE breastfeeding, but I did it for 14 weeks with my 1st DD and it turned out I ended up really enjoying it and was sad to have to give it up when I did.
Trust me...it does get easier. You'll even see a huge improvement in a couple of weeks. Please hang in there!!

Re: sitting here crying
While breastfeeding is the most natural thing, it doesn't necessarily come naturally. It's hard work. Don't be too hard on yourself!
How is she crying? Does it seem like pain (gas)? Is she going through diapers? Is she sleeping a lot?

Re: sitting here crying
Please try not to get upset. I was miserable the first 2 weeks of bf, but them it got better and didn't hurt anymore and the supply grew. My Ped told me to give her formula every other feeding until more milk comes in. Hang in there. We are all behind what ever decision you make.

Re: sitting here crying
It was only a 2 months ago that I was in the same position, struggling with BFing and crazy hormonal crying.
It gets easier. I didn't believe it, but it does.

Re: sitting here crying
I didn't read all the previous posts, so I may be repeating what others have said, but you will be fine!! Don't cry, sweetie! Go lay in bed with your baby and let her nurse while you watch TV or sleep. Just relax. The more she nurses, the more it will build up your supply. Everything will be ok. This is a tough time and we've all been there. Your body has been through alot lately, hormones are all out of whack and your life is completely different. You should feel better soon, but if it goes on too long you can talk to your Dr about postpartum depression. I hope you feel better. I'm sure you're doing a great job. Enjoy your baby.
