sitting up rolling over crying and cio ... how do you do it?

I need advice... please

DS doesn't really cry in his crib, he whines a littlle and goes back to sleep,, until now Chat Icon

Let me just say first DS despises tummy time, he has never rolled back to tummy when playing, rarely will last long enough during tummy timm to roll belly to back. He will do a squigle crawl to get to a toy. He sits tripod, he likes sitting, fights to sit up on his own.

So last night,After being asleep several hours, last night he rollled over back to belly and cried and screamed, I ran over flipped him, he went back to sleep. 45min later he does it again. This time I didn't run, he screamed for a minute and fell asleep like that, at some point rolled over to back, was sleeping till 4am, when he flipped back to belly squiggled his way to the other end of the crib, and started crying and screaming.

How the heck do you handle this? I'm open to cio, he's 5.5 months, do I just ignore him all night? Ferber doesn't work with him, he starts his manipulation, smiling, fake coughing, babbling mamama melting me. He can put himself to sleep he's been doing for 2 months, with or without paci.

I know he can roll over both ways just doesn't want to do it.

He's on the verge on sitting up by himself, is this going to get worse?Chat Icon

For rolling, if you know he can do it, I would let him CIO. Same for sitting up - IMO, he's at the age where they can manipulate you!

ITA. I would let him CIO. I had to do it again for a night or two when they would sit up and couldn't figure out how to get back down.

So just ignore him crying all night, no matter how many times he wakes?

Omg I did it for a nap, this kid was babbling for 30 min, then whining, then screatching/screaminng, finally at the 1.5 hour mark started crying. I let it go another30 before it was time for bottle..

How the heck is this going to work all night?

He wsnt in any trouble, was moving around like a madman, rollng all around.

Ill try to give him tons of floor time before bed, hope it will help.

Re: sitting up rolling over crying and cio ... how do you do it?

i had this same issue with DD at around the 5 month mark to like 5.5 months. She kept rolling over back to belly and crying about it. Mind you she has been a belly sleeper from almost 8 weeks. so i'm like w tf, you like your belly!
Then 2 nights go by and i was sick of going in there all night repeatedly to turn her to her back or side to be comfy.
Eventually i let her CIO (even though she doesn't cry, it's more of a very loud annoying whine) and after a few nights, she stopped. If she rolls herself over, she wiggles around her crib until she's comfy and falls asleep

Re: sitting up rolling over crying and cio ... how do you do it?

When DS was going through this, I would go in and roll him back if I knew he couldn't do it on his own, but I was in and out in seconds. No talking, no attention, just in and out. Yes, he would roll right back over again and cry, but I'd wait a good 10-15 min. before going back in. I never PU/PD to soothe him. After a few nights (maybe up to a week?) he figured out that I wasn't coming back so easily. Soon after, he could roll himself back so it became a non issue.

When he learned to pull up to stand, he would get stuck standing so I taught him how to get down. That took a few days, but he learned.
