Sleeping & Changing the diaper in the middle of the night?
Ladies do you change your child's diaper in the middle of the night?
I have always done this because his diapers seem soaked in the middle of the night and then in the am. It used to not be an issue, but now I am having a real hard time getting him to go back to sleep at night. He falls asleep in my arms but as soon as I put him back down he wakes up cyring. I try and let hime CIO, but after 15 mins he is still screaming, so I go and settle him down and let him cry for 15 mins again. But it still doesn't work. A friend of mine said not to even go in in the first place and don't change his diaper. Because the crying is much worse after I pick him up that first time and change his diaper.
A bit of background - this has been going on for the past two weeks, when he got sick. Since he was sick so sick & congested I let him sleep in my arms or with me in bed propped up because otherwise he would cough so much he would throw up (happened a couple of nights). But now that he is feeling better I need to break him of the habit (which I can't believe started after less then 2 wks) of needing me to sleep.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Re: Sleeping & Changing the diaper in the middle of the night?
By the time DS was 3 months I stopped (I found the Huggies Overnight and that changed everything) changing him at night unless he soaked through things (I learned quickly from the mom's here to make the diaper a little tighter).
He usually has a full diaper in the AM but nothing that has ever seemed to bother him at night. He gets changed immediately in the morning. There are the occassional times where he gets up at night and if it is obvious that he needs to get changed I do it but at marathon speed because it really wakes him up. I also tend to give him a small bottle afterwards to get him back to sleep.

I make sure she goes to bed with a clean diaper, but no, I would NEVER wake them up to change them in the middle of the night.

You are taking him from sleeping to change his diaper? Or does he wake up to eat and you change his diaper then?
If you are changing him without him waking up on his own, its time to stop!
Diapers are really well made, heavy as they are they don't feel wet against the skin.
If he is up to eat, I would only change him if there was poop.

I don't wake him up. He wakes up on his own, so I change his diaper. He is 5 months now and about a month ago we stopped the middle of the night feeding, so that might be why it is hard for him to go back to sleep. Previously he would fall back to sleep during the bottle.
I will look for the Huggies OverNights too, thanks!

Can I make a suggestion? DS used to wake in the middle of the night to eat and it went for a long time (probably up to 6 months). I tried several times to stop the feeding but he really became depend on us to rock him back to sleep. So I went back to giving him a small 4oz bottle at night if he woke. By 7 months he was sleeping through the night and pretty much stopped the bottle. I would say he stopped it on his own rather than us stopping it. I also have to give credit to the fact that he was on solids at that time - 3x per day. I do think it played a role.
Would you consider maybe feeding him at night again and see if he stops on his own? No diaper change unless he leaks - just a quick bottle and back to sleep?

Ang that is exactly what I was beginning to think. I would rather feed him then go through what we have been. So I think I am going to do a small bottle again.
Thanks!
