Sleeping arrangements? Help this first timer please....

What is everyones plan for baby's first coupke if weeks/months? I am getting major anxiety with all the choices I'm making, I keep worrying that I am making the wrong ones. The primary one is our sleeping arrangements. Ideally I would like her to go right to her crib. But then I hear/read that the baby shouldn't. Then if she doesn't, where will she sleep? Do we get a bassinet, co-sleeper, a rock-n-play oe a pack n play?? As you can tell I'm freaking out....help.

I was having a lot of anxiety about this too...especially due to limited space in our bedroom. I was going to get a rock n play...but since our bed is high I felt like the baby would be on the floor. We don't have a big apt so we were going to put the baby right in the crib.....but then my mom's coworker gave her a bassinet that I think will fit in our bedroom. So we will probably use that. Otherwise we would have tried right for the crib. Didn't want to buy something for the baby to sleep in for a few months.

We used a cosleeper for about 7-8months. I was ebf. Then for convenience he slept in a pack n playin our room. My convenience since he was still nursing at night. Switched to his crib around 14-15 months. Still sleeping in crib at 25 months.

With my DD we had her in the cradle in our room for the first 12 weeks then we moved her into the crib. She had NO problem with the transition, didn't even notice. As for naps, early on she would sleep in her swing or the FP Newborn to Toddler Rocker but as we developed a more regular nap routine we put her in the crib for naps too. I plan on doing the same thing with this baby. Chat Icon

I'm hoping to have the baby so straight into the crib.

We'll see how that works since I have a hard time putting the dogs bed in another room...it has to be next to our bed.Chat Icon

I'm not planning on getting a bassinet, or any kind of sleeper. The stroller I'm getting (uppababy vista) comes with a bassinet attachment, and you can buy a stand for it. If we change our mind after the baby is born, we can just buy the stand.

We bought the uppa baby bassinet stand, so plan to either have her in that or go straight to the crib. We'll see which one works when she's here.

I swear by the rock n play. I had every intention of putting DD in the crib to sleep, but once she was here - I just wanted her closer to me. I put the rock n play right next to my bed so she was always arms length away.

We put our baby in the rock and play and crib. We have a one br so no matter what she would be with us. I would suggest having your LO sleep in the same room as you for at least a month. You will be getting up a lot of feed and change LO.

I EBF, so it was convenient and easier using an "Arms Reach Mini co-sleeper" but he grew out of it by 6months and we started to sleep together in a queen bed :) he is 2 and we all still sleep together, we love it, wouldnt change it for the world...he has his own room with his own queen bed that he sleeps in during the day for naps and at night he sleeps in there too sometimes --but we always wind up together ---we are a snuggle bunch ...you need to do what you feel is right for you and your baby when the time comes...I couldnt do the CIO method nor did I believe in it thats why I did the above...but its not the most common practice here in the US...friends and family always have something to say but it works for me!!!

We most likely still wont be home by the time she is born and we are living in a basement... the bed is in the living room lol so most likely a basinet. We can barely sleep with the two of us in bed theres no way we could cosleep.

Re: Sleeping arrangements? Help this first timer please....

I ebf dd but I knew I wanted her in our room for at least 2months. I have a rock and play. Funny thing is the carpet in our room is so thick the darn thing wouldn't move unless I moved it nice and strong which I didn't do very often because I got tired fast.lol I started putting her in her crib at around 8weeks. I did that because I was taking 12weeks maternity and I didn't want the stress of starting her in there and me going back to work all at once. She took to her crib pretty well. It took her about 2-25mins to fall asleep and each night she would sleep longer. At 17week's she's in her crib no later than 830pm and most nights sleeps until 615am. Sometimes she wakes up at 3 or 430am but that's still a pretty good stretch.

Try not to freak out about it. When the time comes you'll know exactly what to do. Mommy instincts are the best

I'm most likely going to have he/she go right into the crib. We are in an apartment and the room is right next to ours. My mom always put us right into the crib and my 2 sisters are doctors and I turned out ok too. If it worked for us, I can't see it not working anymore for my kids.

Re: Sleeping arrangements? Help this first timer please....

Both my children were in the bassinet for about 8 weeks, then moved to their cribs. It was easier for me to feed them at night and for me to hear them if they spit up etc.

There was no issue transferring them at that age, they began to hit the sides of the bassinet which woke them up. They were ready by 8 weeks-and I was ready by then to have some quiet sleep time to myself.

We'll have a bassinet in our bedroom for about the first 3 months, and then we'll transition the baby into his crib. Our bedroom isn't next to the baby's room so I'd rather have him closer at the beginning. They say it's better for SIDS, too, since you're more in tune with the baby when he's in the room with you.

We'll also have a swing and bouncer for his naps during the day, though I might also try naps in the crib just to "acclimate" him. We'll see.

Re: Sleeping arrangements? Help this first timer please....

We had all intentions of putting him in the crib from the beginning, but he hated it, even being swaddled. So we use the rock n play for about 6 weeks. Then he slept in his swing for the next month. At around 2 1/2 months, we put in the crib, and place a wedge under the mattress. At 4 months, the wedge was removed, and he has been fine in his crib.
