Slomins? ETA: Central Protective Alarms?
I looked at some old threads but wanted a new view on Slomins alarm system. We had them come and price things out and are leaning toward having them install...but wanted to hear others' experiences with them (good, bad, otherwise). Let me know your thoughts on Slomins alarm systems and if you have any helpful info. TIA!
ETA: Any experience with Central Protective Alarms in Islip?

Re: Slomins?
i was at the mall yesterday and talked to them.
Keep a few things in mind: 1. You have to sign up for 5 years. 2. They DO install some equiptment, but you have to pay for others if you want extra. Exaplle, then only secure 2 doors. If you have 3 you pay for that. (It night be they cover 3, not sure, but you get my drift). Plus, I would ASSUME the price of monitoring will go up. You dont like it? Too bad. Your in a 5 year contract.
Im not saying they are bad or good. But get ALL the fine print, extars, costs, cost of leaving the monitoring....all that stuff before you sign up.

Re: Slomins?
Thank you!! Yes, we've gotten the pricing for all the extras that we'll need and it's...reasonable I guess. DH spoke to them about the contract and 'said' that the price remains the same for all 5 years...but those are the sorts of details I always check on after he gives me his version

Re: Slomins?
I used to have Slomins and i'll never use them again. The 5 year contract is absolutely BRUTAL.
If you ever have to sell your house, you are on the hook for close to $1000 worth of stuff from them. The only way out of this is if the buyer of the house assumes the contract. Plus they are such a rip-off because if you actually look up the wholesale cost of the items they install in your house, it's closer to $100-150. It's a total joke.
Also the only "free" stuff they give you is a door and a couple motions. They don't give window sensors for free. Once you start adding things up, it gets expensive and really not worth it.
I use a security consultant that I can recommend. He charges for his labor and I get his cost on all the equipment. The equipment he uses is way better, I have computer IP and cellular monitoring.
Plus the security monitoring I use through him is cheaper per month vs. any of the big companies (Slomins, ADT, etc.). And there is no contract to worry about.

We sold our condo and weren't on the hook for anything because we agreed to have a Slomin's system installed in our new house. It did reset the 5 year clock on the contract, however.

That's interesting as I didn't recall if they gave me that option. But it wouldn't have worked for me as I sold and moved into a rental for a few months. And yes resetting the 5yr contract puts you on a nasty cycle.
I personally wouldn't use them now knowing what I can get if I actually build my own system. When I add up all the extras I did, windows, glass break sensors, smoke detectors, CO detectors, cameras, DVR, IP monitoring, Cellular, wireless keychain remotes, x.10 to turn my lights on and off remotely, etc.... I saved a ton. And my monthly monitoring is cheaper with no contract.
Was sort of a no brainer for me. I did have to do me research first though.
