Small dogs and babies / toddlers
We are considering getting a 2nd dog. Casey is very lonely 
BUT - it has to be a breed that is kid friendly.
And for me - one that likes to cuddle on the couch  
Any recs?

Cavalier King Charles! I love them. My dog is amazing with DS. Great with kids of all ages when they come over. He is a lap dog that just loves to be around family.

ADD ME TO THE CAVI CLUB!
I have a puppy so she is still adjusting to my 2yr old. She does whatever Im doing.. reading in bed w/kids..sitting on couch watching TV. sits nice in the car. They are not a hyper breed..
You can get a mix too. Try Shelters and rescue org. they evaluate the dog before placement.

I have a cav too. No kids yet (one on the way), but I have no doubt he will be amazing with our LO. They're such a loveable, cuddly breed. And he was so easy to train. I don't think he has a mean bone in his body.
I will say just do your homework on them and where you're getting your dog from. They can be prone to some scary hereditary diseases (like most pure breeds). For info and breeder recommendations as well as rescue info check out:

A Daschund......so good with children..and excellent lap dogs.....We have one and thinking in the future getting a second one and going with the same breed. Ours has short smooth hair.

ITA...I have a daschund as you can see by my picture. She is just the sweetest dog ever & she adores kids. The only thing be careful of is they have sensitive backs so kids can't really be picking them up and be to rough with them.

i agree. very very friendly. mine hates adults, but just runs up to children all the time. mine has smooth wire hair.

We have a toy poodle who loves children/ anybody. We did get a trainer to come to our house when he was a baby & spent time to teach him good manners.
I think any little dog can be good with children if properly loved & trained.
I was always told that Pomeranians & Maltese are nasty with children. I have met some lovely gentle dogs of both breeds.

Lucky you - thinking about a small dog!! I think I committed to DH that he could get a Golden boy at Christmas for him & Maddie

Mine is friendly to everyone but he is extremely possessive and stubborn. He is super cuddly, though. I love this breed so much but I'm not totally convinced that they are great with kids. My dog would be too protective of my son and my dog steals toys so I am cautious about bringing him around when we have playdates. He's a rescue, though, & he has "issues."

A maltipoo. I have one and he is great around kids. he is the neighborhood mascott, the kids come around looking for hima nd he'll spend all day with him. with younger kids, he will just sit around watching them and gets real happy when they wake up.
