Snow blowers

I'd like to get my dh a snow blower for Christmas. I really don't want to spend a lot. I keep coming up on electric snow blowers. Any one have feedback on these over gas?? (We have an outlet on our driveway so that's not an issue)

Also, what's a good amp size? 13.5? 15? 12?

Can anyone recommend a less expensive one?

I got Dh the Greenworks 12 amp electric one last year. Amazon had a good deal on cyber monday. He said it works well and the size is good (we have a short driveway but wide which is annoying). He said be warned that most outlets are not rated for more than 12 amps anyway and a good extension cord can be expensive if you don't already have one.

Re: Snow blowers

Personally, I would make the investment in a snowblower. If your DH alone (like me) will be on snow duty all winter for years to come, mine is 3-4 years old and the value has already been redeemed and then some. I couldn't picture the snow we had 2 and 3 years ago with out this.

With the electric and alot of snow, he will be out there more often as it not as wide and can't handle heavier snow. Of course running electric and snow/cold/wet is not my idea of fun. Not sure of the cost differences between gas and electric.

Don't do electric. Spend the extra for gas!

Re: Snow blowers

With the amount of snow we get on LI, I would only go with gas. Electric is good further south, or if you only had a sidewalk/patio. If you have a wide driveway, the electric won't be able to handle it.
I have a plow on my pickup, so I don't have to worry about snowblowers.... Chat Icon

Thanks! I'll go with gas, we have a 2 car driveway that's two cars in length as well, plus a large walkway.

Gas all the way. Spend the money. We paid almost 1100 for our, but after the snow we had last year, it paid for itself.
