Right now, I have a mixture of rain and sleet. That stuff will keep the snow totals lower, but make it tremendously harder to shovel...
There's about 2" of snow on the ground, and the accuweather forecast is showing a mixture of snow and ice all day long, so it's going to be a huge mess to clean up...

Well this was a bust. I have maybe an inch by me, seems to be completely done, and now it's just rain. Weather people should stop trying to predict the weather, they really suck at it.

I'm near white plains and there's a decent amount of snow here. Just praying it's not so bad that DH has to spend the night at work.

Idk. I know its messy but I always think closing schools and subways and offices so early is a mistake in the NYC area at least.

Still a HUGE difference from the 18"+ they were predicting. I still think schools should be closed, it's nasty out there, but this is certainly not the storm they were predicting originally. I was looking forward to one last good snowstorm for the season.

If we close tomorrow we lose the day before Memorial Day- and that's a day you WANT to be off- at least they won't be stuck in the house looking out the window and can go outside and do things.
I was so annoyed we might lose that day because our district can never just close one day for snow- it's always a mandatory 2 day min when it snows a flake it seems.

I have 4 inches of Ice pellets. So while it might just be rainy further east is its a MESS at the nassau suffolk border. A few miles make a huge difference in what people are seeing. This ice is worse than 18 inches of snow IMO.

I agree... I'm in northern NJ and it hailing and so windy. This is an uglier storm.

The problem with weather is, while we can predict things, sometimes it changes. I heard all yesterday, for about 7 mins from 2 well known long island meteorologist that if the snow/rain line moves, people would feel like the above. Well, the line moved!!! Someone is still getting 2 feet of snow. Perhaps the people thought that wasn't getting it is now getting it...(devils advocate). The ice hitting the house is a little intense at times in Huntington which means they are pretty decent size.
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Just don't say someone didn't tell you and then a storm comes and you weren't ready.
Schools being closed today still makes sense for safety reasons for various districts especially in Huntington with all our wonderful hills.
If you have off of work, enjoy it with a SO, kids, some downtime. If you are working like me from home, i plan on doing the above plus getting my work in. Be grateful there is less to shovel and being this much snow, the kids will be back outside sooner then later.
Enjoy your snowday :)

I don't care what it does, I just hope they clean it (If there is anything to clean- right now the rain is washing it away by me) in time for tomorrow.
Every time my district closes its a 2 day minimum and it's getting old and we are running out of days

I am beyond thrilled that it was a bust by me. BEYOND THRILLED!
I pray every time they predict snowmagdeon that they will be wrong.
DH always takes the forecasts as gospel and gets upset about forecasted storms a week before. I always say, they can't predict tomorrow, no way can they predict a week out.
Schools should definitely be closed today because its a mess.
I just hope this change means tomorrow will be business as usual

I had to stay home - my subway line is elevated by me, and service was suspended at 4 am.
I'm welcoming the day at home. DH closed his office as well and he's still snoozing.
I used to help him shovel, but he does it all these past few years (my right arm - which is also my dominant arm - is weak after everything I went through) so I'm glad that he won't have nearly as much to clear as they predicted.
It's still wicked out there in south Queens...sleeting and very windy.
I have a lot of coffee and This is Us to catch up on...if the precipitation slows down at all, I'll make it to the gym for a run.

the weather person I followed said it was going to be very tricky to predict this storm one of the hardest ever. They had lowered the totals to 6-12 inches and it said it could decrease if the storm shifted which it has. I stopped listening to the news when it comes to major weather storms. I always check the ones I follow on FB cause they don't blow it up to some huge thing like the media does.
