Re: SNow poll

Depends...

Depends on how secure I feel as a driver in the conditions. It's not worth baging up my car or losing my life to come into work...no job pays enough. To be honest, I know it's life, but I really have issue w/ companies that remain open during really bad conditions and jeopardize their employees so they may be able to squeeze out a couple of bucks. Half the time the head honchos stay within the safety of their own home, while making their employees risk their necks for them.

Well. I didn't pick either. I normally would go into work and always have BUT I am 31 weeks pregnant and the last storm a couple of weeks ago put me over the edge. I spent 6 hours on a bus and was tiptoeing aorund the city.

DH and my mother pretty much put their combined feet down and said if it is as bad as they say, I am staying home tomorrow.

I'm staying home, but I don't have set days, so I will go in another day and work from home tomorrow.

Re: SNow poll

It depends. We have a jitney service in my community to the train station. If they are running, I take the train to work, if not, I work from home. It's impossible to get up and down my driveway in the snow/ice as I live high up on a hill and have an extreamley steep driveway.

Re: SNow poll

I go in - I have a SUV - but it stinks b/c I drive to CT

Hubby does not - he has a rear wheel drive

if I come home early for some reason- he will take my SUV to the office if needed

i will not drive in the snow so i call in. i don't call in sick per say, just say that i don't feel comfortable driving. IMO, no job is worth that risk.

Re: SNow poll

I work for an agency that is located on the campus of a college, and if the college closes, then we close. During the one bad storm we didn't close for last year, my co-worker picked me up in her SUV. She doesn't work with me anymore, so if it's really bad tomorrow morning, I may take a personal day. I won't drive if it's really bad. I'm not comfortable at all.

Re: SNow poll

It depends on the weather, if its really bad and they have not plowed by me and i cant get out i will stay home... if its not bad like the last storm which was 'nothing' really i will go in.

I go in because I can walk to the train. Once we move though and I'll have to drive to the train, I'll probably be taking more snow days since I don't like to drive in the snow at all.

Re: SNow poll

If I thought I had a choice I would stay home... but unfortunately not the case...

Although, I only have 5 days left at my current job-- so, calling in snow is not really an option.

Re: SNow poll

I can't really answer because I have kids. If they are off, then I am off no matter if my job is open or not (they never close though). Before kids, it depended how much snow we got.

Re: SNow poll

Depends..tomorrow, if there is a lot on the ground when I get up, I will get right back into bed. If roads look clear and the traffic reports look ok, I will go. I don't like driving in the snow...that one time of skidding and slightly hitting a utility pole has scared me for life! Luckily I have a flexible job and if I have to call out I just have to make the day up..which I have from now til the end of June to do.

As long as the trains are running I used to go in. Now I have the added problem of dealing with school delays & closings so that throws a wrench in my plans.

eta. Either way I'm working it's just a matter if it's home or in the office.

Re: SNow poll

Staying home bc of snow isnt an option for me since I take the subway to work, but I do have a laptop and can work from home as long as I don't have any in-person meetings.

Re: SNow poll

At my old job, except for my manager who lived in Manhattan, I had the quickest commute, so I always felt like I "had" to go in. Even when I hated my job and was on the verge of quitting, I'd go out of guilt. I figured, how would it look if someone from NJ or Suffolk County made it in, but I couldn't go from Queens?

But, I'd occasionally (sp?) take a "make-up sick day" for myself Chat Icon
