I go to work, though now that I work in Stony Brook, I will probably either work from home or from our Garden City office if the weather is really bad. Not worth risking my life for my job.

Honestly, now I don't. My school district hardly ever closes but my home district is one of the first to close. The roads nearer my home are so much more trecherous and my commute has tripled in recent years. Last winter, I had about 6 days where I just "white-knuckled" it to work. No way was I doing that this year. It's not necessarily snow, it's the slickness of the roads.
They often don't decide to close until some of the teachers are already on the road.
When I lived 8 miles away from the school, I always got there. Once I got there and they were closed. I was not happy so now I don't risk it.
