MrsKS- That was VERY well stated! My DH works for sanitation as well and it upsets me to see so many hurtful comments toward them. It's not their fault they don't have enough manpower or they can't get down a block because there are cars blocking the streets. They're working very, very hard and out long hours. My DH got called in on Christmas, worked 12 hours Sunday and 14 hours yesterday. His plow even got stuck today (which has happened to other guys as well). It's a very bad storm with bad circumstances.
DSNY refused to go down my parents block, despite begging from residents when the plow was on the cross street. No cars are blocking it. I guess they are following orders but I wonder what those orders are?

i dont think people are criticizing the DSNY workers individually, its very obvious that they are all working round the clock. I think a lot of us just dont understand why the city is doing certain things that they are doing. like my post yesterday about the trucks passing through with their plows UP. or today, there were two trucks parked in front of a deli, they were eating breakfast in the trucks (i get it, they need a break, need to eat). But then why is the street literally 50 feet around the corner still not plowed?
its the higher up orders that I am not understanding- im sure the mayor will take a lot of heat when city council does their hearing in 2 weeks.
