Should a pregnant woman be allowed to use the pregnant person parking spot if she is with her DH, or her mother, or her friend?
Hmm, I think shes still pregnant no matter who is with her.
Well if the pregnant person needs to park close because she can't walk...then wouldn't she be dropped off at the door, freeing up the spot for a pregnant person driving alone? If that is the idea behind the spot?
Everyone is so mad at this stranger..it is crazy..I have seen pregnant women jump out of their cars with their dh's..kind of not-so-courteous if I was pregnant driving by myself. He could have just dropped her at the door!
Point is people aren't always courteous. The poster just posted this because I think she thought it was a funny comeback! Now everyone is some uproar!
My DH drops me at the door, I guess for lack of fat and lazy parking spots, lol.

This is another topic that speaks to how people were raised. You can tell from the answers.
No its not a law, its a courtesy. I have been pregnant twice and have never used them. I wouldn't take up one if I wasn't pregnant the same as I wouldn't use a handicapp spot, the same as I would offer up my seat to someone elderly, or with small kids, the same as I hold a door for the person behind me, and when one is held fo me , I say THANK YOU. etc. This is not hard stuff people, i would think it should be a given and its sad that its not. (it will be for my kids!) Imagine if everyone showed a little more respect for each other, there would be A LOT LESS LIF posts !!

good point it totally shows how people were raised...I see it as a courtesy too however I am very appreciative of that courtesy and don't think I should be given dirty looks for taking advantage of that...no largely pregnant lady who takes advantage of those spots is in the wrong. No way.

So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
Maybe she was pregnant. How does your friend know??
This woman could be an older mom, a surrogate, or just look like crap for her age. Who knows??

I have no idea. I believe she definitely looked WAY past child bearing years, possibly pushing 70? But you're right, who knows?! I never would have said anything because you just can't assume.
I'm the type of person that prob would have rolled my eyes if i saw someone take a spot like that that obviously was not pregnant BUT i always try to give the benefit of the doubt..someone may be sick, having trouble etc...I don't really put much stock into these things, its never been a problem for me to park in any spot and just walk. This friend of mine is a bit brazen to begin with, ALWAYS spoke her mind type of person.

NO ONE SAID THAT! People were laughing at the woman's quick, witty comeback. You can tell how someone was raised if they laughed at something funny? Perhaps raised with sense of humors, but come on, let's not get crazy here!

I find this whole thread hilarious! There is no "pregnancy" or "senior" parking here in the city and everyone seems to get around just fine. If someone is truly disabled they'll have a handicapped parking pass.I thought that woman's comment was hysterical and really proves how absurd the idea of "pregnant" parking spots is.
Very True
and I am LOL'ing at the the fact that the hypothetical diabetic has, again, made an appearance.

In my first reply, i said it was a witty come back but still a $hitty thing to do. You can tell how someone was raised with how they treat others

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
I have been pregnant twice in the summer and walked to and from Penn Station (1 mile each way), 8 months pregnant in 95 degree weather carrying a laptop.
So I obviously think the expecting mother spot is ridiculous as pregnancy is not a handicap. I would never park there pregnant or not as if it was that hard for me to walk I wouldnt be out shopping. I think the senior citizen gets priority over a young pregnant woman!!!!!!!!!!

Next time I go to BRU, I'm parking sideways across all of the expecting spots that way no one can park there. Problem solved.

If this happened to any of you personally, you would be pi$$ed and complaining about this nasty old woman. Since it happened to someone else, some of you find it funny. It's funny bc it didn't happen to you. It comes down to lack of common decency, and I agree about some of the PP about how people are raised. People on the subway never off a pregnant woman a seat, bc they just don't give a crap. This is the same as taking one of these spots if you don't need it. Lack of common courtesy and me me me.

Eta - I think expecting mom spots should be replaced with senior parking. I had major pain issues during my pregnancies but I was always able to get around and I would prefer a senior to be accommodated instead of me.

More power to you but because you could do it (or wanted to do it) doesn't mean others do. Those spots exist whether you (or anyone else) want them to. If you don't want to use them, don't! It's as simple as that.

If she were pregnant- wouldn't she have just said so instead of making a rude (though admittedly funny) comment.
ETA: I think the spots are a little silly- but I have used them. I get really bad hip pain through the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. So the less walking I have to do the better. I will even admit to using the spot when I was only 5 weeks along. It was downpouring and I had both kids with me- BUT I was pregnant!
I wouldn't care if I saw an older person or a mom with young kids using those spots. They should just be labled "Coutesy Parking" for those who need it. JMHO

It is really great that you had such good pregnancies. Unfortunately, not everyone is that lucky - I don't think that should be too hard to believe. When I was on bed rest I had a 2.5 year old and no help - life had to go on. Everyone does pregnancy different and your great experience does not negate everyone else's experiences.
