Yes, I do. I make two kinds. I do a pistachio artichoke hummus and a regular hummus. It's easy. I do it because I don't see hummus that much around here-- GMOs don't bother me, only processed foods with artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives do.

Re: So bummed re: Sabra!!!
I've found that lately the taste of Sabra has changed...there's like an acidic aftertaste that wasn't there before.
This has nothing to do with the GMO thing, obviously. But I haven't bought it as much recently due to the taste thing...now that I know about the GMO stuff, it'll be even less.

How do you verify these ingredients that are GMO?
I go by this list:
The most common GMOs are soy, cotton, canola, corn, sugar beets, Hawaiian papaya, alfalfa, and squash (zucchini and yellow). Many of these items appear as added ingredients in a large amount of the foods we eat. For instance, your family may not eat tofu or drink soy milk, but soy is most likely present in a large percentage of the foods in your pantry. GMOs may be hidden in common processed food ingredients such as: Amino Acids, Aspartame, Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbate, Vitamin C, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Flavorings (“natural” and “artificial”), High Fructose Corn Syrup, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Lactic Acid, Maltodextrins, Molasses, Monosodium Glutamate, Sucrose, Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP), Xanthan Gum, Vitamins, Yeast Products.

I don't follow the GMO issues. And this may sound really dumb.
But "cotton"??

I had to look it up too:
Cottonseed oil is a high-value cooking or frying oil and is sometimes used to make margarine. The oil is also a source of vitamin E (tocopherol).
Leftover fibres that are too short to be spun into textiles consist almost completely of cellulose and can be used as food additives. Cellulose (E 460) and methylcellulose (E 461) can be used as thickeners, stabilisers, emulsifiers, or fillers.

Yeah, GMOs are so horrible. /end sarcasm. If used correctly, they could help the hunger issue in 3rd world countries.

Actually, this is a very controversial idea and certainly not a proven fact. There are many who don't feel that GMOS help with world hunger. Here are some articles on the issue: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-robbins/gmo-food_b_914968.html http://earthopensource.org/index.php/7-feeding-the-world/7-1-myth-gm-crops-are-needed-to-feed-the-world-s-growing-population http://www.dw.de/genetically-modified-food-to-fight-hunger/a-15525069

Re: So bummed re: Sabra!!!
Thanks for the links, but I don't consider them credible sources. I did find a few journal articles, and I find them more credible than the huffington post ;).
http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/89/6/1776.long
I'm not really interested in going through this debate with you (it never really goes anywhere and your sources are not really good), but I am amazed at how people (in general) believe media so much with no credible backing of science.
ETA: I also like this link http://www.ajstein.de/cv/golden_rice.htm

Klingklang, not trying to debate or be snarky, but where is the unbiased scientific research that long term consumption of gmo foods by humans does not cause adverse effects, including Subsequent generations? I'm asking honestly in case you ran across something that I have not seen.

Definitely didn't see it as snarky, and it's a really good point to raise.
I haven't come across any articles of the sort.
I do think that it is quite difficult to prove that something doesn't exist. Take for example, unicorns. Obviously unicorns don't exist, but can you really PROVE that they don't?
There are a lot of claims about health effects and new technologies. These dangers are looked into, but if nothing is found, it is considered safe. The problem is you can always claim something has not been studied enough since there is no one study proving something is 100% safe.
ETA: There was also an interesting pig study that has recently come out, but it has already been refuted.

Re: So bummed re: Sabra!!!
Well I don't know that you can analogize unicorns to GMOs. Scientists could very well look into the impact GMOs may have on, for instance, cancer rates, infertility, gut flora, epigenetics, neurological disorders, etc.
The bottom line is that long term health effects of gmo consumption are unknown at this time. For me (and apparently many countries) that's reason enough to avoid GMOs as much as possible.
