so i bought the angelsounds doppler
it was on amazon for $25 including shipping. despite the great reviews i didnt have high hopes. i am 14w3d. so anyway i got it and was surprised it came with its own battery. at first i couldnt find anything other than my own digestrion and wasnt surprised. then i put water on my belly and it TOTALLY amplified the sound. then a minute later i was able to find the little moo's heartbeat !! i mean i dont think i'll use it everyday, i kinda just bought it for novelty to see if it would work. but it is nice to know how easy it was to find a heartbeat. and i prob will use it occasionally. anyway if anyone was wondering, it does work!!
ETA - ok.. who am i kidding on only using it occaissionally.. i already used it again

The one thing I was still kind of amazed about is how low the baby is. When do they start to move up??

i love the doppler, can't wait to use it with this one. buy some ultrasound gel on ebay or at a med supply store - it's worth it!

this is the one i bought although it was cheaper when i got it.
i firgured for $25 if i couldnt find the HB i wouldnt freak out, id just assume the doppler sucked. so far out of a few tries, two times it took a while to find and i had to push down kind of hard on my belly, the other two times i was able to find it right away.
i dont use gel, i just use water. it works MUCH MUCH better with water than dry, so im guessing it would be even that much better with gel. i also find its much easier to find the HB when im laying down. it moves from left to right some nights, but most of the time its about an inch below my belly button and either an inch to the left or an inch to the right. to be honest i never thought i would be one of those people that buy these things, but i ABSOLUTELY love it!!

This maybe be a silly question, but how do you know you are hearing the baby and not your own heartbeat? Thats what I am afraid of.

I'm not a doctor, but I think your heartbeat is much too far away to hear when you have the thing on your lower abdomen. We listened to my heartbeat first, to see if it would pick that up, then moved down and around until we picked up the steady beat of the baby's heart. It's pretty cool, especially for $27! (that's what I paid on Amazon).

i did the same thing, there is a very clear difference between your own heartbeat and the baby's. also it doesnt pick up sound from very far away so you have to be over your own heart to hear your heartbeat, and you need to be over your pelvis and pressing down to hear the babies. way different sounds though!

i dont think its recommended until after 12weeks. i was 14w when i got mine and im 15w today. i had no problem finding the heartbeat the first time i used it. i think the earlier you are the harder it is to find.

Re: so i bought the angelsounds doppler
I wondering, because when I went for my 12 week appt with my OB she tried to listen...and what we were hearing was my own. She said it was picking up blood vessels and stuff...that makes noise too.

My OB did pick up beating....it was blood vessels. They can definitley pick up noise that is you and not the baby! I heard it.

i answered this on your other post as well. but the at home doppler does not pick up nearly the stuff that the dr.'s office one does. so yes, i hear my digestion ALL THE TIME but you absolutely cannot hear your own heartbeat if the at-home doppler is on your belly. it just doesnt have that kind of range. however, if you put it on your heart you can hear your own heartbeat loud and clear.

Re: so i bought the angelsounds doppler
I love the doppler! I actually had not used it in awhile and then last night I was in so much pain (indigestion/gas) that I thought for sure there was something wrong with the baby. I pulled out the doppler and just loved loved hearing the heart beat gallop away.
To the person that asked you can start to hear the heartbeat with the doppler around 11 weeks, but it's hard and can get nerve-wracking if you don't hear it. They say after 13 weeks it's a good time to start listening to it.
You can also for sure 100% hear your own heartbeat/pulse in your abdomen. Your placenta as so much blood flow that you almost always can hear that on top of which your abdominal aorta is in the area too and you can pick up the pulse from that.

Its not the actual heartbeat...its blood vessels that sound JUST like the heartbeat. So yes you can hear a beating that is NOT the baby. And you can hear it on the at home ones, which is why I was advised not to buy one. I am just telling you what I was told.

Re: so i bought the angelsounds doppler
I would also imagine that your own heartbeat, should you hear it, is slower. At our appointment the other day, the baby's hb was close to 150. My own is like 70, so I would presume you would count the beats to determine if it's yours or the baby's.
