So I finally know the full story of my Brother
I really don't know how my Mom did it... she is soo much stronger then I have ever already thought in the past. This may be hard for some...so I'm giving a heads up now... but it's also informative in a way.... soo... here goes
My Mom's 3rd child was a boy... my brother that I never got to meet. He passed away when he was only 19 months old. He was born Feb. 4, 1976... My Mom finallly shared all her detials that she remembered.
When he was one year old, during the summer, June, he got a cold. Just a runny nose... no fever...nothing too much out of the ordinary. They went for a bike ride since it wasn't too hot out. When they got home, they were all sitting on the curb (that's what they did often back in the 70s lol) and he was still perfectly normal. Wiping his nose on his sleeve like a normal boy does LOL. Then, just out of no where, he had a seizure. His eyes rolled back in his head, he foamed out his mouth... My mom went into full panic (as I'm sure any mother would) and my Dad immediatlly called the ambulance. They never came...so my Father drove him to the emergency room.
After doing every single test they knew of, they found nothing wrong with him. The doctor told them that the seizure was just the babies was of fighting off a fever. My Mom thought there was something else they weren't saying, so she asked her Ped, a family doctor friend, and so on. They all said the same ...
After that he was completely fine. His cold went away within the next day, and back to normal tempeture. Then came September...
My Mom says it was a Sunday... she was getting my sisters ready for church...and he came up to her and asked for juice. She saw he looked a bit flushed, so she felt his forehead...it felt a bit warm, so she was going to get him his juice (as she put it to me she remembers it was some red juice that he loved most) and then take his temp. He took a sip of the juice, possibly a bit more, then once again, started having another seizure. When she felt his forehead again, it was extreemly warm. She was afraid to see, and my Dad told her it was 107.5 My Father put him in cool water, as the doctors explained back in June to do if it were to happen again. But nothing was happening....he went into acoma, and wasn't waking up. They rushed him back to the ER.... My mom said that no one was allowed in the room with him. B/c his fever kept increasing... they had in a bad with ice all around him. None of it was helping. He passed away that night.
My Mom had 2 more children after that... my brother, and then me. I just don't know how she got threw it all as well as she did. I look at my DS, who was born a day after my brother, Feb 5, and just think, I can NOT ever imagine losing hm. The doctors never found a reason of why he passed on. His death certificate actually says reason for death, unknown.
So. of corse, after reading up on this online, there isnt too much about babies not surviving seizures. They say all over the web that it's actually normal, and never actually effects the baby in the long run. But one thing caught my eye...on several sites it said that it can run in families. Now I'm thinking if it's somethign worth calling my Ped about for my DS, or just waiting till his next appt in Aug.
If you got this far, thanks for reading. I just give my Mom so much more for dealing with what she dealt with. I just couldn't imagine being as strong as her if I had to go threw that.

It's a good PSA that if you think something is really wrong, to never give up, and try to find an answer (even if there is none). I am so sorry for your family's loss.

Thank you for sharing that story with us, that must have been very difficult.
I just wanted to say that I had many seizures due to fever when I was a baby, and have gotten high fevers all my life (105+). I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews and none of them have ever had anything like that.

Re: So I finally know the full story of my Brother
seizures are a body's way of reacting to fever. I myself as an infant was vaccinated while running a fever which sent me into a tailspin later that nite or next day. 106 fevers, convulsing / seizures. From what my mother tells me, i was in the hospital for 2 weeks and they told her i would be lucky if i were a vegetable the rest of my life.
I mentioned this to my ped at our interview regarding vaccinations and it was something i wanted to be noted and keep an eye on.
It doesnt hurt to mention to your ped and have a discussion.
but it seems these things are rare though. Such a terrible thing to happen but at least you know some details.
your mom must be one tough lady!
