so, i go to get my eyebrows waxed...

during my lunch break, yesterday, i decided to get my eyebrows done at a place near work. i'm thinking, if i like them, this will save me time.

go in, put my name on the list, and wait.

the girl who will do my brows calls my name. as we walk back to the little rooms for waxing, she looks at me, checks me out and says...



"oh my goodness! you need your lip and chin done RIGHT AWAY"

HOW INSULTING!!!

yes, my upper lip could have used some love, but the way she spoke to me!

i turned around and left.

i'm not leaving my hard-earned money there!

W T F?? I was just telling my sister yesterday that I am tired of beauty technicians in any form who freakin' insult the customer. I was having a facial once and the woman told me "you really need to wash your face regularly..." I was like are you f-ing kidding me?

Oh my gosh- they used to do that ALL the time to me.
I'd be getting my nails done and the woman would look at me in disgust and go - "Oh you NEED an eyebrow wax- or you NEED a lip wax"

I swear it's marketing ploy to get you to buy more services when you are there- but man it still stings!

From what i have come across in the salons especially nail salons, is how rude they can be, they were massaging my friends back after a manicure and told her she needs to loose weight that she was mushy on her arms


I really think that asians just dont have any tact when it comes to customer service, i have been insulted by them numerous times as well.
I am not saying all asians because i go to a nice salon now, but i have experienced some rude salons in my day

I havent had the rude comments about the eyebrows but the place I go to their was one guy there (thank goodness he isnt there anymore) that would constantly criticize the polish I had chosen. Sometimes if I had chosen the same color that I had already had on for 2 - 3 weeks he'd tell me pick another color. I would bring in my own color and it was from Essie. He would constantly put down the color and the brand. Then tell me how OPI is much better and he would seriously get up, get a bottle of OPI of a color similiar to the one I brought it and would use that instead of mine. I would get so mad and told him no I want what I brought in and if you refuse to use what I have chosen then I'll refuse to come here. Ever since the owners are the only ones who do my nails and I havent seen that guy since.

That used to happen to me all the time!! Way to make a girl feel good about herself! Now I do not step foot into one of those places unless I am hair free, and lookin hot. Sorry that happened to you

Yeah..I've had a few times them suggesting I get my upper lip waxed when i'm getting my eyebrows done..

That is just awful! I have a great person who does this out of her house that is licensed and she does facials etc. FM mail me for her #.

I'm so glad you walked out. I had one of the ladies while she was doing my nails once tell me I needed an eybrow wax.

I had just gone the day before, and I go to someone who I spent 2X the nail salon amount because she's fantastic!

I couldn't believe it!

But I've learned from that, you shouldn't take it as an insult, they just want the business whether you truly need it or not. They are looking for items to add on, to make more money from you.

I just don't understand the sales tactic of saying you MUST get this, I can't imagine it has been working well...

I think it's a cultural thing and have never taken offense to it.

Please, my girls were quick to let me know when I had gained weight and when I had lost it. It was never a judgement on their part, just an awareness.

Here in the states it's rude to pick your nose in front of others, but in rural china, it's pretty common, along with hocking up loogeys. That took some getting used to.

ummm yea not all asians lack tact.

but if they are/were asians that insulted you, its because of the language barrier. what sounds right in their heads in english may not come out properly and with etiquette.

no asian remarks please lol. i can take a joke with the best of them, but i dont like generalizations.

to the OP, try not to take it personally. just consider them really bad salespeople!

I wouldn't take offense...that is how they talk to most people. They always say to me, "lot of hair" and "you need lip wax too?". Today she told me, "you have skinny nails"...whatever that means. Don't take it personally.

I went to my favorite nail place to get a manicure yesterday. I had just returned from an entire week in miami and was quite tan. The woman says, "Oh, you skin so dry, you need facial, spa manicure, and good lotion." On top of that she tells me I need a pedicure, which I just got the day before!


They definitely try to get more business, but should just suggest the service instead of telling you that you need it!. I always get the lip wax comment when I do my eyebrows, no matter how hair free I am

Do you go to them often? I mean not only to that particular salon, but any salon? I've heard things said to people, which gave me quite a chuckle but thats bc I know how they are and even the people that these comments were made to said "Yeah, yeah, yeah, next time" or something to that effect and just let the comment roll off their shoulder...I guess what I'm saying its nothing to get upset about. Its definitely a cultural thing and is not meant to offend you, but rather an attempt to elicit business...weird, I know, but thats how they roll. But of course if it bothers you, then I wouldn't go there anymore. I have a problem with certain Eastern European salons where I find certain treatment unacceptable and I just don't go there.

I don't think it's just nail salons - I've had this issue at full-service salons when I go to get my hair done.

Once, I actually had a stylist say "do you really like the color of your hair?" As if I shouldn't! I was like, "Sorry if my being a brunett is somehow offensive to you, but that's not going to make me want to go blonde!"

I have gotten similar comments at full service salons. Like "Oh, you should have come in sooner; you shouldn't have waited so long" Um, maybe if I worked at a salon I would have time to get my eyebrows waxed every two weeks.
