So, I think I broke my toe... do I bother going to the Doctor?

So, after my run in with the wall yesterday... I think I have broken my toe as it's all bruised and purple now. I put a piece of cotton between the two toes and taped it.

School gets out at 1, and I have a stupid science lead teacher meeting that I wouldn't mind having an excuse to get out of...

Should I try to get an appointment with the doctor, or should I just suck it up and hope the taping works?

They wont do more then you have. I have broken a few toes in my wild past and tape and cotton was the universal fix. Is it the big toe? if it is I would get a x-ray, if not tape and cotton are the way to go.

My friend broke hers the other day and there is nothing to do but tape it.

It must have been something yesterday. I did the same thing & my toe I believe is broken now. I have it taped & will not be going to the dr since they won't do anything.

I broke my toe last summer and it sounds exactly the same. I didn't go to the doc either because they won't do more than I did.

It took a long-@ss time to heal though, and even after the swelling and bruising went away, it was still tender.

It's not misshapen now, just looks a little larger than it used to. Sorry about your toes ladies, I know how much it must hurt!!

I broke my big toe a few years ago. Ouch! I couldn't walk very much, so I went to a podiatrist. He taped it and when it hurt really bad he gave me a shot of cortizone. You really just have to keep off of it so it heals.

I broke my big toe at least 3 times and I always tape it. Nothing the doc can do.

It will take a few weeks until it feels mostly normal again but it should only be painful for a few days. Taping it should make it feel better.

Like everyone else has said, the doc will only tape as well, so might as well tough it out and pop some aspirin if needed.

Although they cannot do much for a broken toe (maybe tapping!), you will want to check with an x-ray that you don't have a "loose" broken piece in there.

Many broken toes back in my party days. All they will do is tape it up for you. Just make sure you wear sturdy shoes and it will be better in a few days.

Yesterday was a bad toe day. I was laying on the floor playing with baby bk when my DH rolled his chair over my big toe. I self diagnosed it and taped it up. The doctor would do the samething except charge me for it.
