So my Dr. said to see a Hemotologist for my anemia.
Has anyone ever had to do this?
I think it is all overreacting.
They also wanted me to see a specialist for my breathing.
Not sure of I should go.

I don't think it's something to joke around about! If your Dr wants you to go I'd go. What would it hurt..... I hope all is well tho and GL

Re: So my Dr. said to see a Hemotologist for my anemia.
I did! My OB scared me and said I had to get to the hematologist immediately because I have severe anemia. When I met with the hematologist, she did not seem as concerned. I have to go every month for bloodwork (my anemia is not because of iron deficiency). Right now, I take B12 and prescription folic. If my count goes too low, I may need a blood transfusion. It may not be the same for you. Don't get stressed!! It's just an extra precaution for you and your baby! Good luck!!

Re: So my Dr. said to see a Hemotologist for my anemia.
I had anemia before and during pregnancies with Abby and Zippy, but it was due to the fact that I am a gastric bypass patient with malapsorption issues. It was exacerbated by pregnancy. I NEVER reached a level of SEVERE anemia, but it was of concern because I am having a repeat c-section and could lose a great deal of blood. If I lose too much, I could end up needing a transfusion. I was placed on Rx iron supplements to be taken every other day in order to avoid constipation - so much for that, Im lukcy if I go every other day but I digress.
If I were in your situation, I would follo your OB's suggestion. I don't know what qualifies anemia as "severe" but I woulddn't fool around with that. It could very well be possible that your OB is covering his bases. OB's have VERY high malpractice insurance rates for a reason. Worst case scenario, a hematologist would suggest iron infusions. It is for YOUR safety.
Good luck.

Re: So my Dr. said to see a Hemotologist for my anemia.
I went to a hemotologist a few years ago for low platelet count which ended up to be nothing. I was so upset and then when I found out it was for nothing I was so mad at my self. I am anemic as well but I haven't been told to go anywhere for it yet. Let us know how it goes!

I am seeing a Hemotologist right now. My hemoglobin level was low, so she wanted me see one. I am not on iron supplement as he doesn't think my levels are that low. I see him once a week only.
