OMG that i just so sad. I am so sorry to hear this.
DD is 18 mths and I still dont let her have loose blankets and things in her crib. Im so nervous about that....

I too donot give DS a blanket, we only use them when we're out in the cold, and it is with supervision.

Good God - everytime I think Cailen is too old, I hear about a baby older than him - that is so awful!!!

Honeslty I can't understand it. It just doens't make sense. Coudl it still be SIDS at 9 months?
My stomach is sick right now. I HATE hearing sad news like this. My heart goes out to the family!

I'm wondering the same thing.... How terribly sad for this family... I can't even imagine what they are going through....
I thought that SIDS risk was over after a few months though?

I don't understnad why are you guys saying no blankets?? I put a blanket on DS he is 6 months old, he is able roll back & forth and remove a blanket form his face??
Many for that poor family.

I thought that SIDS risk was over after a few months though?
In the baby books I read it said SIDS risk is up to TWO YEARS!!
It's a common misperception that you are "out of the woods" after a couple months. Though it does become less prevalent.

That is scary and upsetting...but I honestly never have hesitated putting a blanket over DS (of course in the beginning i used a sleep sack).
When your baby is rolling over and has good head control they say its safe.
I could be wrong, but I don't think the majority of babies who have passed from SIDS was b.c of a blanket on their face...it has more to do with belly sleeping and not being able to turn their head off the mattress...
They say a blanket, EVEN when fully over the head, does not create a "smothering" action...there is still oxygen circulating between babies nose and blanket...just something to think about...
