So today we are trying CIO for naps!

DS is 13 months.

We started using the Ferber method when he was a little past 6 months old and it worked awesome for us! We never had to go past a couple of nights in a row.

Unfortunately DS has always been a horrible napper. He rubs his eyes, he yawns to no end, he is tired, but he just doesn't go down unless you rock him and he sleeps on you. I have just decided that I will no longer be held hostage to either:

a) a cranky baby who won't take a nap
b) rocking DS to sleep and letting him nap on me for 1-2 hours while I cannot do anything because if I try to put him down he immediately wakes up

So this morning I decided that after he fell asleep on me while we were reading books, I would put him in his crib and if he got up, CIO it was.

Well, the morning nap he cried for 30 minutes and then slept for an hour and 15 minutes.

Now for the afternoon nap, he cried for about 10 minutes, but I still hear he is awake in his crib babbling... but at least he is not crying.

Potential progress? He naps perfectly for them at daycare 3 days a week, so I am more determined to have a happy boy who naps.

Whew... it is so hard, but I am a firm believer in CIO or Ferber and am sorry I haven't applied it to naps sooner!

Re: So today we are trying CIO for naps!

i hope it works for you!!!!

Never worked for us for naps although I didn't try all that hard. And to let you in on a little secret in case you haven't figured it out yet, daycare workers hypnotize children to sleep in patterns almost on command. They're like baby whisperers. At home we've always had inconsistant napping.

Today though was a small miracle (and I probably shouldn't even say anything because I bet right now he is awake in his crib and just fooling me). BUT, this morning at 10:30am i put him in his crib and he feel asleep with no crying until 12:30. And he's in there again now because there is no way he will survive a night out without another nap. It would be a surefire call from DH that DS is cranky and he doesn't know what to doChat Icon
