So, um...be careful if your child likes to play with the phone
Just like most kids, DD is obsessed with the phone. Normally she'll hound us the whole time we're on it, so we give in and give it to her for a few minutes when we're done. She's always pressing buttons, and we keep clicking "off" a million times to hope she doesn't dial.
Well, she did this yesterday with DH (I was downstairs), and the phone rang-- it was the Suffolk County Police Dept asking if everything was alright b/c we dialed them & hung up on them  DH was so apologetic to her, she was very nice he said, but we feel horrible that we wasted their time & tied up their phone line 
So be careful!!!!! Apparently she must have dialed 911

My DD ended up calling some random number and I didn't realize it. A few hours later I got a call from someone saying they missed a call from me

don't feel bad. at least they didn't show up.
when my DS was 11 months old, he was playing with the phone too. dialled 911, but left the phone connected.
(we had verizon voice mail at the time, they hung up and called back and were talking to the voice mail to see if anyone would pick up)
needless to say, no response, so 2 police cars were at our house at like 9pm that night. 4 cops....
i was finally getting a chance to relax in the bath, DH opens the door, and DS was like "Company!" and wanted to play with the cops.

Oh man, I would have died!!! It's so funny, but at the same time a big Ooops.
Although Ryan isn't into gadgets right now he has older cousin's that are. I lock the keys on the phone before giving to them  Just like if they decide to play with the remote I take the batteries out

One of my friends kids used to call 911 when he thought monsters were in his closet He would hide with the phone and his parents never knew till they came to the house and said they would be charged a fine if it continued

OMG! My dd dialed 911 a couple of weeks ago and I was so embarrased when they called my house to make sure everything was okay!

OMG the same thing happened here too.
My son was learning about 911 in preschool. They had been playing with the phone and I hadn't realized it. We had just finished up baths and they were running around naked when the doorbell rang. The cop had said there was a call made from out house and the operator heard children in the backround and came to check it out. I was so embarrassed but he said that it does happen pretty frequently - but they always have to check it out because sometimes there really is a problem.

my friend just told her son did this the other day.. the cops actually showed up to her house and they were pizzed!! my dd is obsessed with my phone always scared she will call 911 so before handign to her I put it on the calendar setting this way she wont dial out.

Someone I know let her son play with the phone, and he dialed some random number. Well, the woman called back, and heard a woman's voicemail, and went balistic, but she only spoke Spanish. From what my friend could gather, the woman thought my friend was having an affair with her husband and called several times. She asked me if I knew Spanish, and I told her "Not enough to fix that!"

Bryan is now obsesssed with the phone. He hung up on my mother the other day OOOpppss..

my sister used to hit the panic button- which was a silent alarm that went right to the police station (she thought it was the door bell- it was right by the front door- but on the inside)
needless to say- they police stopped coming to my parents house after a while
which was really bad- thank goodness we never needed them!

Charlie calls EVERYONE. He did dial 911 once and I got the call from Suffolk PD but most times he hits the redial and I hear him talking away to my Mom, sister or niece.
