Re: So, went for my follow up OBGYN appt - a little nervous, although I shouldnt be....
Being a mammo tech I will try to ease your mind somewhat:
I can tell you that 95% of women who get mammos also get xtra films done..(ex: magnification views, spot compression views) and /or an ultrasound. And 95% of those women turn out to be just fine. Especially since you've had a breast reduction.
I know it is very nervewracking, my mom passed at 46 from Breast CA and I also just got my first mammo done at 31. I had to get xtra films done and an ultrasound also.
Most of the xtra films and sono are precautionary measures. Dr's nowadays want to do full workups on almost every patient since breast CA's come in many forms. From the blatently obvious to the hardly detectable. It is scary yet very necessary to use these extra "tools" as we call it.
So just b/c you may be called back for some more pictures or an ultrasound in no way shape or form means that it's going to be followed by some life altering news.
What most women forget is that breast tissue comes in many shapes and forms depending on the patient. Factors like age, pregnancies, surgeries, biopsy's, if you breastfed, if you didnt, if you're on hormones etc.. all take part in the way breast tissue looks, feels, and is ultimately photographed on an x-ray. Being called in for more pics can mean an aray of very benign things such as possible cysts, fibroadenoma, glandular tissue, dense tissue (the younger you are, the denser your breast tissue is) or sometimes it's just breast tissue overlapping on other tissue making it look suspicious when it really is not.
Just like no two people are the same, no two breast tissue are the same. Your right breast could be completely different from your left breast. And that alone, could warrant you being called back for additional images and/or ultrasound.
I am sure that what you and your Dr. are feeling are just a result of your breast reduction. But it is very smart of you to start now. The rule of thumb is if a woman's mother died of breast cancer young, then the daughter should have her first mammo (baseline) done 10 yrs prior to the mother being diagnosed.
But sometimes you have to be your own advocate. If your Dr. poo poo's it, and you have a strong family hx such as a mother who died young, you must insist. Early detection is by far the only cure. I hope i've shed some light on the issue for you. Again, I wish you all the best... I am here if you have any other questions.

Re: So, went for my follow up OBGYN appt - a little nervous, although I shouldnt be....
VERY common for women with reductions, like your Dr said, but it's great that you're being proactive. I have a strong family history also, and it's always in the back of your head...
I have a great feeling, about this... I know this would be a lot to have on my shoulders for over a month... Could you find someone to schedule it sooner so you can have peace of mind when everything comes back PERFECT?

Re: So, went for my follow up OBGYN appt - a little nervous, although I shouldnt be....
I know it's hard not to worry, but true to think about something else. I always do monthly exams because I am quite large. I thought I felt a lump about a year ago and when I told my mom she then informed me we have a strong family h x that included her having a scare around my age. Needless to say it was just a scare but it was enough to scare me into a few sleepless nights. There really is nothing I can say to ease your mind, but honestly there is nothing you can do until the mam. I feel for you and if you EVER need anything PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FM me!!!!! Everything turned out good for me and I go every other year due to my age........good luck...on a side note how is the reduction????? I would like to get one after I am all done with kids. ANy info in a fm would be great...... Good Luck to you and your family!!!!

I did it when I was 20 - I was a EEE/FF It was awful going thru HS and my teen years with that... It was the BEST thing I ever did, and I couldnt imagine having those huge things during pregnancy!!! I went up a size and still am not completely down since having Cailen!!! That would have been awful!!!

Well, I have to do it after AF, and I'm getting it on the 15th, there was no availability before...so I figured to be on the safe side in case I'm late, which has been happening after having Cailen....
