So, what does "regular" pregnancy sciatica feel like?
Last week, I started getting this sharp, stabbing pain my right butt cheek and it has gotten progressively worse. Today, I went to sit down on my bed and it hurt so badly that it actually stopped me in my tracks!
I'm fine with sitting, but when I get up, or go to lay down, the pain is really intense. Is this "typical" pregnancy sciatica?
I ask if it's "typical" because I had sciatica with my last pregnancy, but it was caused by a ruptured disc leaning on my sciatic nerve for 7 months The pain was much more intense than this...but I guess I'm just trying to convince myself that THIS time it's normal, and not my disc acting up again...

If I sit for any amount of time I get a shooting pain in my left butt cheek. And down my leg everytime I step on my left foot. With DS it was a constant ache in my right butt cheek and down my leg.

I think once you suffer from sciatica, you are doomed forever. I know I still get it every once and a while, but is is NOTHING like what I had originally.
My mom still gets it from time to time.

My pain is in my right butt cheek too and it strikes at any time and sometimes the pain is absolutely paralyzing! Some days its fine, some days its awful.
I am hoping the next 8 weeks go super fast.

Re: So, what does "regular" pregnancy sciatica feel like?
Thanks everybody--I sat on a heating pad for a good 45 minutes today and it didn't help, so I KNOW it's nerve pain.
But I'm glad to hear that others are going through it (well, not happy that we're all in pain, but you know what I mean ) because I've spent this entire pregnancy hoping and praying that my back will hold up this time--it had only been 10 months since my back surgery when I got the surprise news that I was expecting again. I've been very on edge.

Re: So, what does "regular" pregnancy sciatica feel like?
Sciatica usually (not always) is a radiating pain down your leg. So it might start up by your butt cheek and then move to other parts of your lower limb.
I had the exact same pain in my right side. It was paralyzing. There were days i couldn't even walk and had to crawl to the bathroom. I told my OB about it and she wrote me a script to go see a physical therapist. I've been going for about a week now and its seemed to help. Pain is almost totally gone. Also...the physical therapist told me heat is no good...try ice. (but this was just for me...talk to your dr. and see)

Re: So, what does "regular" pregnancy sciatica feel like?
I think I am experiencing this also. For the past week or so I've had a horrible, horrible shocking pain that just goes right through me, from my right butt cheek into my leg. The shocking pain only lasts for a second or so and then it kind of subsides slowly. I have felt it in the past so I didn't think it had anything to do with pregnancy. Then in my babycenter email today they had 7 pains of pregnancy..and the way the described it was exactly what I was feeling. If you go to babycenter and click on "Symptoms and Discomforts" and then "Aches and Pains" and then go to the link that says "How to handle 7 pregnancy aches and pains" and look for lower back pain and sciatica, theres really a lot of info and some ways to help ease the pain.
