So when did your STUBBORN child get completely potty trained
So DD will be 3 on Sunday and she is horrible at this potty training thing. She had really good days and horrible days. Last week I thought we were on to something but she had an accident and DH kinda yelled at her and now she doesn’t want to go anymore. What kills me is that she knows how to do it but refuses and I cant force her to do it. It will probably do more harm than good if I force her.
We have been trying to train her for a while now and its not clicking. When did it “click” for your child. I just want to be done with the pull ups already.

The most stubborn one was potty trained by 3 - with accidents afterwards. It was the desire to take swimming lessons that made it click. I told him you had to be potty trained to do it.
Have you tried underwear under the pullups to make dd uncomfortable?

She may not be emotionally ready yet. Pushing to hard can make is so much worse and can cause "holding" which can lead to bladder infections, UTIs, etc.
Also, make sure you and DH are on the same page. You can't get angry for accidents or not going. You can't push because it creates a power struggle. I would suggest looking at various ways to pt and then committing to one and keeping to it.

Re: So when did your STUBBORN child get completely potty trained
My DD trained around 2.5, but I do have to say she was STUBBORN! Especially with the pooping part, that took a little longer!
IF she had a pull-up on, she went in it. The only way to train was just to go to underwear all the time and not look back. Sure, I threw away a fair share of her underwear at first, but it clicked very soon.

Re: So when did your STUBBORN child get completely potty trained
DD turned 3 in October and I could have written your post myself.
Within the past 2 weeks it is like it finally clicked for her and although she is still wearing the pullups, she hasn't had a wet one (other than night time) for over a week now - and we were away for the weekend with a three hour car trip each way!
We tried everything with her - I think that at this point she was just ready.
Ironically, we did tell her that she can take swimming lessons only if she is out of the pullups too - don't know if this had an impact or not (the pool that we will use doesn't allow diapers of any kind).
It will happen when she is ready!

Still waiting!
Ryan just turned 4 and is *almost* there, he just needs to WANT to do it and not be so resistant. Our next step is underwear all the time so he is uncomfortable, and hopefully that does the trick.

Re: So when did your STUBBORN child get completely potty trained
I thought DS was stubborn, but he was 3.5 when he finally "got it". DD is 3.5+ and not really motivated to be trained. She knows that only "babies" have diapers, her older bro uses the potty, she tells us when she needs a clean diaper. She even changes herself if it's just wet, so it's not that she's lazy....
I WISH the stereotypes were always true. "Girls are easier than boys" and "The 2nd is easier than the first DC".....

We did the underwear only thing for a while with DD. She just wet those as well, and wanted new dry ones. It didn't seem to "click" with her. Even though they were Dora panties, and she didn't want to pee on Dora.....

Re: So when did your STUBBORN child get completely potty trained
Alex was fully potty trained by 2.5, and she's THE SINGLE MOST STUBBORN CHILD ON EARTH!
I was VERY passive - my theory was, the more you push, the more they repel. I let her take the lead ENTIRELY. She started showing an interest at 2. I took it VERY slow... got her some potty books, potty power DVD, took her to the store to pick out a potty, and we did a sticker chart (a sticker for everytime she used the potty, if she filled the whole chart, she got a new toy).
I tried not to make a big deal at all out of accidents, and just took it as it went. Truth be told, *I* really wasn't ready for her to be pottytrained, but she was, and I couldn't ignore it much longer.
There are two keys, I think. First, never push - any inkling of pressure, and they will repel completely and it will backfire. Let her take the lead entirely.
Second, once you commit - that's it - don't take any steps backwards. Once we decided to bite the bullet, that was it, no going back to diapers, and no pullups. It was underwear all the way.

Okay, but I dont know how to keep her from peeing on the couch, etc. How did you handle that. Its funny because sometimes she is interested in going on the potty and sometimes she just doesnt want to do it. Im getting mixed signals fromher

I wouldn't let her sit on the couch If she wanted to sit and watch TV, it was on the potty Otherwise, if she fell asleep on the couch or something, I'd put a towel underneath.

My STUBBORN 2.5 year old has NO INTEREST in potty training. I already know this is going to be very TOUGH with her

Re: So when did your STUBBORN child get completely potty trained
DD turned 3 a month ago and potty training was going really well and then it wasn't. She absolutely REFUSES to poop in the toilet!! So I do not know what to do - other than keep throwing away diapers.
