Maggs1227 2+ hours of gym. That is a lot.
for now, we're walking in the park early morning before all the people every other day.
i am dreading quarantine because we live above our landlords so can't exactly do jumping jacks or run in place.
Yeah I'd be fudging that big time
I don't think it's too much - 2 hours of exercise a week? Gym is 40 minutes a day, 3 days a week... And I'm working and teaching my kids myself 2-3 days a week... I feel it's important for them to do something (no matter how they break it up - biking, walking, etc).

So who else is suddenly homeschooling right now??
I'm in NC, and our Governor just announced that all public schools will be closed until May 15. Oof!

my kid is very active but I wouldn't put any of it on the exercise log. I don't think his teacher would agree that "using dad as jungle gym" and "daddy rodeo" are exercises no matter how much energy they waste.
it's the whole homeschooling thing in general. they are expecting too much. There's a homeroom class, where you have "fun" assignments like send a silly selfie. There's a technology assignment where you need to make up a jeopardy game. They are trying to keep it business as usual, but it's not. Just give us the basic subject assignments on monday, make them due the following monday, and call it a day. It's not like they are learning anything. It's just a race to answer questions you will forget eventually.

I agree. My DD’s gym teacher posted the other day that they had to log any activities they did (including chores around the house). We’ve been going for a walk or bike ride every day(weather permitting) and/or doing a 20-30 min online workout. It all adds up.

Chores? Lol. I don't even do chores. Today dd did a handstand. That was the extent of it with the rain. We have no assignments of any kind yet thank god but I really hope they aren't expecting specials. Especially gym. God I hated gym. Dh is the gym rat...he can take her on a bike ride or whatever but it's not my priority

****maybe... but my sons teacher herself has been assigning about 4 hours of work a day on google classroom ( that includes doing a google meet-up with the whole class everyday and things like that... but still...) so that, with a couple breaks, and lunch/"recess" break- its pretty much the amount of a regular day. so its good. hes also not anywhere near as motivated to work for me at home, as he is at school in the structure.... so its bad enough to get him to do the 3-4 hours of assignments from his teacher, let alone begging him to do typing practice for library?? i mean i guess its good to have in our pocket if he needs more to do... but like i said, by the time he finishes the stuff his teacher puts up, hes so over looking at google classroom and doesn't want to do it, and i'm not gonna push him on it... this whole situation is nuts enough!

I wouldn’t be surprised if NYC and LI did. New York is a big big state and just the NYC/LI regions have 17,000 of the confirmed states cases. The entire rest of the state only has 3,000.

Re: So who else is suddenly homeschooling right now??
Guys my prediction is nyc schools are not going back
And with predictions of the highest of these numbers being in May there’s no point in them reopening in May for the few weeks til June.
Let this crap fully go away.
This thing doesn’t die. It can live on surfaces for a long time. You have this germ coming in to the schools by accident going home with two families at a time, you just start the whole cycle over again.
Especially in nyc where everyone commutes via train subway bus; kids go to middle school and high school via public transportation never mind all the thousands of other commuters
I don’t think Long Island schools will go back either to be honest

It has been very hard for me also, I am expected to WFH and take appointments of my own, all the while where i have to homeschool two kids and sit through teletherapy sessions with my son. My DH has a rotating schedule so he can only help me on the days he has off.

Specials teacher here. I do not give grades so I am just finding supplemental activities. We are teachers also and I teach lessons during the week. Also my son has found comfort in keeping his specials rotation intact during the week, so if I can give that comfort to my students it's worth it.
I'm not requiring my work, it's completely supplemental. I can't speak to other districts but my district is not putting pressure on our families for work outside of the core subjects. Also, given that Cuomo has said there will be cuts to education after this, I need to show my worth. I absolutely love my job.
I'm sorry you're feeling the stress. I have an eight year old at home as well and I am starting to hit my breaking point balancing everything and not being on 24/7.

The problem is when they go back to school there will be new cases. I was talking with a bunch of moms and one feels like the FDA will forgo protocol and push some sort of vaccine through. We are starting our 3rd week home. My kids had packets sent home and we finished one but the other one for my 1st grader has me teaching her money and fractions. I also have a 2nd and a Kindergartner. I finally caved in and after 2 weeks they are playing on their kindles. Next week we start google classroom and Im dreading it. We do it for 3 days go on April break and then we go back to it. I have no idea when or if we will be back in school. I had a hard first week home, last week was better and this week Im trying to introduce school work back in. My husband is a Produce manager and has to work. I worry about him and my family but I don't let it paralyze me like it was doing week one. Im trying to stay positive and do my best to keep calm. I went out last Tuesday and Im holding out till next Tuesday to go back to the stores. I went at 7am to walmart and it was like any other day. Everyone was working no masks and I was like WTH!!

Re: So who else is suddenly homeschooling right now??
I don't think politicians are really caring about homeschooling woes. They seem to want to close school as economically it isn't making as much of an impact. Teachers are still getting paid. Yes, it does make it harder for working parents but whose working at this point??
My inital guess was schools would reopen June 1st with additional 2 weeks, but I doubt that. I think they will reopen in Sept when moms and dads start to protest as we are already seeing in other parts of the country. At some point enough is enough.
Remember social distancing was to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed, not to prevent people from getting the virus (which inevitably most will) At some point, hospitals should be able to deal with the caseload coming in.
Thank God children aren't really getting ill and for most it is a mild but annoying virus. As a society, and to avoid a Great Depression (which I think is going to happen regardless), we need to "reopen" life as we know it. The risks outweigh the benefits.

I don't necessarily agree that politicians do not care. Cuomo himself said that he could not reopen the workforce without opening schools because there would be no one to care for children.
While I am desperate for my son to go back to school, I completely understand why they haven't opened schools back up yet.
