Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

I see from most people here that no one is really going out too much, trying to stay home like we have been told to.
It seems because it was so nice yesterday people just forgot we are supposed to be social distancing and just HAD to get together with friends and take selfies for social media.
I truly don’t believe people actually get together and stay 6 ft apart the entire time and they only do it for the camera the ones that do.
I get this is hard but this is why we are stuck at home, people losing their businesses and we have to wear stupid masks to go food shopping.
Am I the only one who is seeing this and the people who do it get mad when called out?

omg the easter pictures were ridiculous. so many got together with their families and the posts clearly showed many were not following the 6 ft rule.

Yesterday, my neighbor threw a 1st birthday front lawn party. had to be over 30 people, including a brand new baby (looked under 1 mo). She was cutting cake and passing it out to everyone, people were letting their kids around each other, etc. People are idiots.

Re: Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

Yep, I noticed that by me yesterday too. I whisper to my dh (they don't live together and that is not 6 ft apart), i cringe and judge silently, and then go about my business. I do wonder if they in turn are also silently judging me because I was ready for a howdy-wave, but they never looked up towards my way.

People will do what they please. I do what I please for the health & safety of my own family.

Re: Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

Driving home from picking up our dinner last night, I noticed the parking lot of a small shopping center near my house looked at lot more crowded than it has looked lately. I said to Dh, why is the parking lot so crowded?
Then I saw people taking folding chairs out of cars and setting them up.
Then in another section seemed to be a birthday party of some kind...banners on the cars, balloons, etc.

I'm not sure why at this point they don't just get together in someone's yard. Why does everyone have to do this in public places or on their front lawn? Is it to flaunt it? Or do they think they are socially distancing better because they are in a parking lot or their front lawn?

I also saw a picture on Facebook of someone celebrating their 80 something year old grandfather's birthday and hanging all over him for pictures.

I know it shouldn’t annoy me but you are being selfish and not thinking of anybody else as no one really knows if you have it or not.

Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

I pretty much hate people.

My neighbors had a first birthday party last week IN their house. They have 3-5 visitors a day. They let their 13 year old son hang out with friends every single day.

My other neighbors have their ILs over frequently. I wouldn’t mind this but I saw their other son (mid 20s) who lives with them out with his friends the other day.

My other neighbors let their kids play with other neighborhood kids.

Multiple families on a walk together.

People are selfish. I understand everyone wants to be able to do these things, but we’re suppose to be socially distancing. I think in my area people are not following the rules because while there are cases here, it is not rampant like in the metro area. Most models are based on 75% adherence so I’d like to think my neighborhood meets that criteria.

Meanwhile I go to the store every 7-10 days to get groceries. I went to Target to get my son birthday gifts.

The part I least understand is why put it on social media? I've seen several people posting photos posing with extended family that they definitely don't live with. If you insist on breaking the rules, why do you need to flaunt it to everyone? At first I assumed they were posting old photos but their caption proved otherwise.

Exactly. We can’t stop people from not doing the right thing but why are you blatantly showing it off?

Because nobody knows how to function in their lives without posting it on social media. Can't enjoy a hike, time with your kids, vacations, getting your hair done etc without posting it. If it's not on social media it never happened apparently.

The flaunters are the same people who will goout when they know they are sick--before and after corona --and send their kids to school sick. It's why we can't trust one another and one of many reasons why "reopenings" are going to be disastrous and prolong everything further and deplete resources. Because so many people only think about themselves.

Yep and it is sad. Sad for people who are dying of this, and dying alone.
I wish they could be in a hospital setting for a few days to see what people go through. Maybe it will get through to them.

LOL we must have the same friend!

I noticed the last few days that the roads are definitely busier with cars, and when I go for my long runs I see more and more kids out together bicycle riding or hanging out in parking lots. I understand - people are DONE with this. But it also angers me because I haven't seen another human and my parents haven't seen their kids or grandkids in 2 months.

You beat me to it lol... don't forget pics of every meal and every gym squat lol my absolute favorite though is posting videos of a concert while you're at the concert. How about you sit back and actually enjoy the concert you paid money to attend and post your blurry out of focus videos after it's over. People forgot how to live in the moment when social media was invented.

Well, I post pics of meals I eat. Not because I don’t know how to live in the moment. I can live in the moment, thank you very much. I am doing a quarantine album of food for myself. Because that is where I keep it. I am also all alone and have no social interaction. I like to share it with my family and friends in NY. I don’t want to keep it for myself. I’m tired of myself at this point. So before judging someone, think about where that person is at.

ETA: I also studied culinary arts and restaurant management (even though I never really did that for a living afterwards) and want to share it with those friends as well...

I had to go to AT&t yesterday to replace my phone( I need it for work)
And it's on a Main highway and Ibwas shocked how many people were on the road. I asked the employee if he has been seeing a lot more traffic and he said yes. It seems like the longet this goes on people are just going to do what they want.

Keep posting your food, your squats, your cats, dogs, babies etc

Who gives a crap what people post? So if someone stays home and posts food or their gym activity because they are bored, they are annoying. But if they go outside and interact they are going to hell. Like which is it? People can’t do sh!t nowadays without a total judgement and this was way before the pandemic.

I guess I’m just tired of all the judgements and holier than thou attitude.

I’m complying and been staying home. But why let what others do get you upset? It’s not worth you feeling that emotion, especially in a time like this. There will always be people who break the rules or skate outside the lines, you can’t control that. For the most part people are staying in, the streets are dead, kids and people aren’t at school/work. The numbers are dropping so it is working. Why let the small percentage of dummies anger you?

I more upset at the government and the way they are handling things now. The disregard for All human lives and the fact that we are going on two weeks of not saying anything of Value. To me that’s where anger should be directed at, not the few dummies who aren’t going to listen regardless. It’s just not worth your energy.

Yeah it may not be a picture that I would post, but I am sure I have plenty of pics that I post that you wouldn't. People get so upset about what's on social media but everyone has the option of not following certain people or just not going on social media. The obnoxious posts trying to sell things are the only things that bother me.
