Soft serve ice cream during pregnancy?
Has anyone been told NOT to eat soft serve ice cream (like Carvel) while pregnant because of possible listeria? I just read something online and was wondering...........thanks.

I myself follow this "rule" You just don't know how often or how well they clean the machines.
Some or many people will tell you it's fine in moderation, but with listeria it only takes 1 time.

My doctor has NEVER said to stay away from soft serve, but I have read online that it could be wise to stay away from it. I don't really listen to that, because I trust my doctor would have told me to stay away from it. I go to a TCBY that is clean, and frequented often.

my dr never mentioned anything about this..if that were the case you would probally want to stay away from a lot of fast food being they use a lot of machienes for food.. I wouldnt worry eat it and b happy..

I was never told this by my doctor. I found out about it from ppl on here. I personally still eat soft serve mostly frozen yogurt not ice cream. I wouldn't get TCBY from a rest stop, but from my local frozen yogurt joint I am comfortable with the cleanliness.

it's so funny how all doctors are different. one of the first things my OB said to me was no drinking, no smoking, no soft serve ice cream!

My doctor never personally told me not to eat it; I had heard it from a friend. That being said, I have eaten soft serve (Carvel, McDonald's, Friendly's) every week since I was pregnant and the baby is alive and kicking!! (literally )

DH worked at carvel back in the day so
I just asked him about this...he said they emptied and washed the soft serve machines each and every night! They used to clean the inside, run the water through and clean the spouts. I don't know how long it takes listeria to grow, but that sounds pretty clean to me!

Really? Only once per week?  I'm glad to know this, as I won't be eating from Friendly's anymore, pregnant or not. Do you know how much bacteria can grow in a week? Doesn't sound very clean to me.....
