Soft serve ice cream?
Does anyone know if we can eat soft serve ice cream? I've been reading that we shouldn't eat it because of the bacteria that can be in the machines. My sister used to work in an ice cream shop and I KNOW they never clean them.

That's what I've had...Carvel, it's my weakness, especially now that it's getting warmer out

I am dying for TCBY and my DH says you should not eat soft serve blah blah. Only problem is I can not find one near me

My Carvel cleans the machines every night. That's why you can't get soft serve after an hour before closing.

Well Thanks Ladies!!!! I must go get ice cream tonight!!!!! I am so craving either TCBY or Carvel now.... At 7 months preggo, I thought these cravings would stop!

I used to work in an ice cream place with soft serve. We never cleaned them... whats weird is at that time, I ate from it and was not skeeved but now i'd think twice about it. the machine stays so cold and its used often and its just milk-like that comes out of it - so its not like milk bits are left behind in a warm machine for days you know? and so many people eat it daily -pregnant or not..and don;'t get sick often enough that its banned!.. so i am sure its okay!

What we were told by the nurses in my Drs. office is that they don't want you eating soft serve for the same reason they don't want you eating cold cuts. There is a risk of listeria mostly because the machines are most likely either not cleaned out regularly or not cleaned properly which could create the bacteria that listeria comes from.

My OBGYN did not tell me not to eat soft serve but my sister's doctor did so I just don't eat it, I love it!!

But wouldn't this be the same as hard ice cream with the scoopers that they just kep putting in that dirty water with all the scoopers?

I read this online and then I asked my doctor, who is very very very cautious in general. He literally laughed at this and said that isn't true we can't have soft serve. He said eat away. So I've been having it - I loooove Carvel so much too.
