Solids starting at 4 months?

At my DS's 2 months check-up yesterday, my doctor informed me that she wants to see him again at 3 months, and again at 4 months...and at that 4 month appt we are going to discuss what solids to start him on. WOW! Did anyone else start the LO on solids at only 4 months? I was always thinking it to be 6 months...

we started DS around 4 1/2 months. he just seemed ready, and he did great. i think every baby is different... so you have to go with your baby

I just never knew that you COULD possibly start them that early. Each book I read always say 6 months...so iw as just taken back..ya know?

We started DS on cereal when he was 6 months. I think we will be doing the same with DD. She will be 4 months on Saturday and I take her back to the ped next week. I don't anticipate her telling us to start solids yet as she is steadily gaining weight.

We discussed it at his 4 month appointment but my doctor didn't really encourage it until 5 months. Even then, my baby was sitting up that well, I waited until just before his 6 month appointment to start with rice and oatmeal cereals. 4 months seemed a little early for my baby. You have to see how it goes.

We started my DD on solids at 4 months because she showed interest and because she starting guzzling 8oz. bottles every 2 hrs or less when she use to only take 6oz every 3-4hrs. Formula alone wasn't cutting it and she was ALWAYS watching us eat and "chewing" as we ate in front of her. We gave her solids and she gobbled them right up and never looked back. She dropped her bottles back down to 6oz. every 3-4 hours and she was much more content. By 6 months she was eating lots of different table foods too...........with NO teeth mind you. She didn't cut her first tooth until right before her first bday.

Every baby is different though and not every baby will be ready at 4 months.

With DS we started him on cereal at 3 months old. With DD, we started her at 4 months old.

DS has been getting cereal in his bottle as per the ped since 1.5 months bc he was drinking toooo much. So if he is up to it, we'll be starting solids at 4 months. He is 3 months and a week now.

We started solids at 4 months. She took to it right away.

We started cereal and fruit and 4 months. DS had no problems and took to it right away.

our ped told us that we could start solids at 4 months, but I didn't want to and I did not think that DS was ready yet. I tried at 4.5 months and he wasn't ready and still at over 5 months, he's not ready even though he's drinking 32-40 oz a day! I tried oatmeal, bananas and applesauce and he hated all 3 and just pushed it out.

I did. He did fine. The other dr. in the practice waits until 6 months. It is your choice. AAP recs. 6 months. If you don't want to.. don't!

We will be starting solids at 4 months as per my ped.

Unfortunately, his appt is more like 4 1/2 months because I think he could be ready now.

We waited until 6 months even though it was against what my pediatrician wanted.

our ped also told us to start at 4 months. Cereal, veggies and fruit. Although we have started - we are taking it kinda slow. I dont give it to her everyday. We started too but then she was getting more gassy - I think it was bc we were trying out peas. I stoppd them and went back to straight oatmeal. I did mix in applesauce with it for her last night. She does very well eating off the spoon and everything but the bad gas she had the other night upset me (she was so uncomfortable!) so I'm not going to stop but we will take it slow.

we were given the ok at 4 months. but we were switching DS from alimentum to good start that i didnt want to upset the apple cart so to speak. DS is 5 1/2 months now and we started 2 weeks ago with the rice which he hated. he loves the oatmeal now and i started carrots yesterday.

you dont have to start at 4 months if you're not comfortable.
